Knackattack
Wonder if they are going to try to lock him up longer term. Something like 5/25 would be cool.

Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 05:56 AM) Wow. That seems cheap. It's actually slightly above what mlbtraderumors was projecting.
Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) Wonder if they are going to try to lock him up longer term. Something like 5/25 would be cool. I think it's way too early to consider an extension. We got to see how he handles 2B and if he takes any steps forward with the bat. I think around the All-Star break is far more realistic. Edited January 15, 2016 by Chicago White Sox
Buehrle>Wood
Any extension sounds like Mark Teahen all over again.

Teahen was actually better at the plate when we extended him than Lawrie is now. Teahen sucked defensively but Lawrie may too at 2b. Way to early to give him an extension. lasttriptotulsa
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 08:14 AM) Teahen was actually better at the plate when we extended him than Lawrie is now. Teahen sucked defensively but Lawrie may too at 2b. Way to early to give him an extension. Teahen had averaged -0.4 fWAR for the two years before the Sox traded for and extended him. He had put up wRC+ seasons of 86 and 90 and was an absolute butcher in the field. He rated as a pretty marginal base runner. Lawrie has put up an average of 1.1 fWAR for the two years before the Sox traded for him. He had put up wRC+ seasons of 103 and 94 and rated as a very strong defender in 2014 and had a bad defensive 2015 which may possibly be because of the shuffling around between 3rd and 2nd. He also rated as a positive base runner in both years. In the two years prior to their acquisitions Lawrie was better in every facet of the game. Buehrle>Wood
Two years fine, but fairly similar players at the plate up until now and when Teahen got extended. As you point out, we don't really know how Lawrie will be defensively full time at 2b. The overall point is that extending flawed players like Lawrie is going to be a losing effort. Let's wait til he proves himself.
