NorthSideSox72
The second chapter in Kim's Year One series covers Corey Zangari. The series is a deep dive into the history, and first pro year, for a handful of this past year's draftees. She did Jordan Stephens a few weeks ago, and will do Seby Zavala next. These are very well-researched.
oldsox
How did Zangari last until the 5th round?
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) How did Zangari last until the 5th round? Okie State commit. Took 3rd round money to get him, he had leverage and looked likely to go to college. Also, he was taken in the 6th, not 5th.
southsider2k5
That is a great description of the Micker injury too. Again, it sounds a lot like what Robin Ventura did all of those years ago. Hopefully it doesn't hinder Micker the same way.
ptatc
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) That is a great description of the Micker injury too. Again, it sounds a lot like what Robin Ventura did all of those years ago. Hopefully it doesn't hinder Micker the same way. Different injury than Ventura. According to the article Adolfo had a spiral fracture of the tibia. Ventura had a fibular fracture with a dislocation of his talocrural (ankle) joint. Ventura's game was not predicated on speed. His ankle motion would have decreased that. Hopefully, Adolfo's talocrural joint was not involved. If it was, it could effect his outfield mobility. bmags
I like that it seems like he's coachable.
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) I like that it seems like he's coachable. As we were discussing out new Top 30 list (which comes out next week), one of the reasons we liked him and are going to rank him pretty highly is his shown ability to adjust. Even in his pro short season, he made significant adjustments and improvements in that 2.5 months, and adapted well from at bat to at bat. That's a big key, and a differentiator vs what we saw from, say, Keon Barnum. It's still quite early of course, but he's showing much more than just raw power at this point. If I am following you right, that means he shouldn't have any long term effects from this?

Correct. As long as the fracture didn't effect the joint, which tibbal fractures it usually doesn't. They usually higher up the lowrr leg. It can happen but its not as common.
