He has battled injuries which has impeded his development. Actually only one full year of experience. Based on his own comments last year I see an real possibility he improves. I have to believe it is one reason the Sox have been treading carefully in the OF free agent market. The front office knows Avisail Garcia has talent. Can he break out is obviously the question

Should just DFA him.. bet no one else would try him in the majors this year... this guy was what, the 2nd worst player in baseball last season?

You don't DFA a 24 year old with the talent Avi has. You work with him in hopes he produces. Plus you show me someone we have waiting in our system that is ready to take his place. And the Sox are not going to pay a free agent $20 plus million to play in Chicago

He'll be starting in RF for the White Sox on opening day.

If that happens they are going to pay for it at the trade deadline. When they are forced to upgrade if they are anywhere near the playoffs.

Fair point...I guess to put it better would be more like every other employer.

The condition you identified is present in pretty much every workplace in America.

The under/over performing employees part is. I was trying to refer to how salaries and employer are so controlled for the first 6 years of a players' contract. The players have little room to negotiate, but neither do the teams. And a player is not allowed to go find someone else to work with, they have to accept it and like it. (Yes, there are independent leagues and Japan I guess, but those aren't comparable)

Here's a good one. Would the Avi haters rather have had one year of Rios at 4-5 million or one of Avi at 2.1? Rios is still available I believe. I'd prefer Avi by far. I'm telling you, he's gonna get one more year of 400-600 at bats and this will be his last shot with the Sox obviously.

There is a lot of hate for Avi right now but the beauty of sports is that fans can forget about their hatred and their opinions of you after you put together a couple of good months. Avi has all the tools to succeed and I would love to see him put it together just to teach people a lesson (that they will never learn).

But likely he wont, however. LOL

Time for Avi to step up or move aside in 16.

For this to be an effective argument, you would need at least one person to actually want Rios.

I'm curious to see how Avi can produce in the the minors this year both offensively and defensively. As of now, he does not belong anywhere near the MLB main roster.

He would look like a superstar in the minors offensively. However if he goes down then he must work on his batting eye instead of trying to produce big numbers. The guy swings at everything. They jam him inside and he swings . They pitch him down and away and he swings. I don't care if he K's looking a lot as long as he is looking and evaluating pitches .He's got to be a student of learning to have an educated guess what pitch is coming next . That means knowing pitchers strengths and weaknesses and how they have pitched him before. Give Avi a Spanish language book on tape of Ted Williams " The Science of Hitting "and have him listen to it and practice it over and over.

So does he get the 2.1 million still if he's optioned back to Charlotte?

If he were sent down, he would still get that paycheck.

However, this contract, like Viciedo's last year, won't be guaranteed until opening day of the regular season, so they could still release him for only a pittance before opening day if they found a massive upgrade like the one they signed last January.
