Baron
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 03:37 PM) Sometimes it better to watch with your eyes instead of relying on unreliable metrics. It's confirmed by the eye test. That Bill James guy...what the hell does he know about baseball right?

fathom
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) How would it suck vs LHP? Melky is a switch hitter and is decent from the right side, Shuck has reverse splits, and Sands can rake lefties. Shuck and his amazing reverse splits of a .683 OPS. Melky couldn't have been much worse against LHP last year. Be nice to get another righty bat out there, especially with how bad Eaton was against LHP last year as well. That Bill James guy...what the hell does he know about baseball right? You putting all your eggs in 1 basket to defend a point says all it needs to. I've watched multiple Cubs games last year & outside of bad jumps from time to time (hence the below average), he's not the liability you make him out to be. I'm trying to be optimistic. I want another righty bat as much as you, but I just can't see it happening at this point unless it's a similar type of deal like Rollins just got. Perhaps Hahn will try to add an outfielder off the scrap heap.

There's not that many LHP in the MLB, so the season sample size for any given hitter against LHP is pretty small. Both Eaton and Melky were fine against LHP in 2014. Abreu is another one who was awful against LHP in 2015, but I wouldn't expect that to continue this year.

Just need one more bat you can play vs LHP so you don't have to count on LaRoche...or Shuck

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Rosenthal mentioned Michael Saunders on Twitter a few minutes back. I wonder if he could be an option for the Sox. On paper, it makes sense. He's relatively young, cheap, left handed, solid defensively, can play center, and could platoon with Avi. Whisox05
Looks like the three team trade is dead now. Tho bruce is still available. That said: The Reds have shown a willingness to trade Jay Bruce for a not-so-big return, and other teams could pounce knowing price is low. https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/701997921940742146 If Bruce's trade value isn't huge what do you use guys think of him or should white sox go after him Edited February 23, 2016 by WhiteSoxLifer
cabiness42
No, Sox should not go after Bruce. He's another lefty slugger in decline.

I hope the Sox don't trade him for someone fairly average or below. What do you like about him? Groundball %? I'm really just curious as I think he's the bullpen guy that I'd move ideally. His Walks/Hits to K% is bad and a recipe for disaster at some point if you ask me.

I think he is going to start striking people out a bit more, and he does keep the ball in the park. Plus he's a rubber arm. You can abuse him if necessary. cabiness42
Can someone please explain to me why the Sox should get Bruce? Is it his below average offense, his below average defense, or his high salary? Which of those three is the big appeal?

GreenSox
Bruce is a marginal upgrade from AVI IF both repeat their last 2 seasons. Bruce hasn't had an OBP over .300 in the last 2 years. How much more of that kind of hitting do the Sox need? Bruce is worth a middle reliever, I guess. But that's about it. People constantly want to sell low and buy high, which is what dumping Avi would be. Much rather the Saunders side of that deal anyway, if he were healthy.
