I might get blasted for this, but what about De Aza? Mets looking to trade him, he for sure will come cheap. Can platoon him with Avi.

Sure, he doesn't upgrade the overall defense, but he's still a decent hitter.

Heard Rangers are looking at him. I don't think the Sox would ever take ADA back.

Seems like he's starting his decline. Despite how much he annoyed people, he was a pretty decent player for us and I would have definitely taken him back last year but I'm not sure he's going to be any good this year. Not the worst out of the box idea though.

Showcase in Mexico City on Tuesday for three more Cuban players - OF Yadiel Hernandez, 28; 1B/3B Yanio Perez, 20; SS Alejandro Rivera, 20.

I've never heard of the younger two, but would love it if the Sox signed Hernandez.

The younger two would have to fit into the international signings pool because of their age.

I would be ecstatic if that were the plan to sign Hernandez. Everything I read about him is positive.

I wouldn't mind buying low on Bruce as he has had 2 down years in a row. If he could return to form with his .330ish OBP with some power he would be a good edition. As long as we aren't giving the farm. He's only signed for this year plus a team option for next year.

Hernandez looks interesting, especially that hes a LH bat with great OBP. Doesn't profile as a star or anything, but perhaps a nice platoon partner for Avi.

I actually would rather sign Hernandez at a lower price than sign Fowler or Jackson at an inflated price. It would be a risk, but perhaps Abreu can help with the scouting report and the recruiting. I have no clue about how he can play defensively. But, I'll bet the Sox are persistantly asking about Puig.

Is Hernandez that good? I don't know a ton about him, but I'd rather have him than Avi if nothing else.

Last year .369 .509 .535 1.045 7 homers, 51 RBI in 85 games. 77bb to 47k also catches your eye.

Career .324 .449 .487 .937 career high is 10 homers, and 69 RBI in 86 games, but 380bb to 285k for career.

Not bad at all.

Looks like he'd translate to a nice #2 hitter in an MLB lineup. Hopefully the Sox snag him for cheap.

I don't think Hernandez will be anything too special at the MLB level. He really doesn't have the power to be a corner outfielder. He was rated as just the 16th best Cuban prospect and you can expect reasonably a .150 to .200 point drop in his OPS in translating to MLB. If he drops into the low .700s level, like I think he will, he better play dang good defense to have much value at all. Baseball Prospectus compared his skill set to Daniel Nava.

Agree on all accounts. Let's get Jackson.

Honestly, Yadiel could work out well for this team. From the sounds of it, he isn't really regarded as a potential star, but does have some upside. Scouts have seen him more as a 4th OFer type along the lines of a Daniel Nava. While that might not be all that exciting, it could allow the Sox to give Avi the first crack and then bring him up in May or June.
