fathom
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 30, 2016 -> 01:39 AM) Big focus on White Sox poor starts to season, a problem for a while now. Ventura said players might play longer in Cactus League games. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/693231071220121601 Ventura said regular lineup might play together more as unit in spring training. Also more ABs for starters. https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/693231279047884801 Ya they need to get more at bats together. Last year I kept wondering when the actual lineup was going to get more time together and they didn't That noise you hear is balta clapping
Sockin
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) Since you are there, do you agree than Hahn implied he was working on a deal earlier today? Someone tweeted that I don't get the sense he's close to anything but I do get the impression he wants to add someone before the start of the season. fathom
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) Avi apparently got booed? That kinda crap pisses me off so much. I don't want the dude starting either but it's not like the guy is lazy and doesn't care about his job, don't boo him at a fan convention. Awful. Another thing that sucks about this is Avi is close to Abreu and Melky, two of the clubhouse leaders. Nothing good can come from booing Avi. NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) Since you are there, do you agree than Hahn implied he was working on a deal earlier today? Someone tweeted that That was Cat Garcia who tweeted that. I asked people who were there, and they heard nothing of the sort. Be careful with Cat, she's a serious attention hound, to the point where Hahn made fun of it last year.

Kalapse
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 08:06 PM) Not necessarily soxfest but a great Hawk interview. At the end, he says Hahn isn't done https://theathletic.com/2016/01/30/hawk-har...ne-talking-yet/ Hawk is very confused. “Well, right now you can’t compare him because of his upside,” he said of Lawrie. “Last year he played 70 games, what did he hit, 15 home runs and drove in 60 something in less than 300 at-bats?”
Rowand44
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) Hawk is very confused. He just decided to combine his 2014 and 2015 numbers. If only that's how baseball worked, Hawk.
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 29, 2016 -> 08:20 PM) Hawk is very confused. Lawrie is a 30/120 guy and nobody even realized except for Hawk. What a steal!

louispenna
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) Was a reason ever given for why Rodon and Lawrie aren't going to be there? Lawrie posted a video earlier that he couldn't make it because he has a lot of family in town and he just recently got married. Not sure about Rodon though. caulfield12
Sale and his wife are already taking Fulmer and his fiance under their wings...they went out to dinner together last night and had lots of questions about transition from college to big leagues, lifestyle adjustments, living in Chicago, etc. Other observations: Avila is going to be an excellent manager or front office exec like his father someday. Finally, Connor McKnight is a lot better than Rongey. He even got Willie Harris and Carl Everett (beatbox) to do a rap on air. Willie wouldn't comment on team's makeup and future moves needed, but sang the praises of Todd Frazier for five minutes and how everyone will love him...and how annoying playing Sinatra everywhere he goes can get to his teammates, but in an amused/retro is cool way. Sale was extremely complimentary to JJ Putz and Matty Thornton for their mentoring in 2010-2011... The Beast
Have many hard questions been asked to Hahn and has anyone pressed him when he's side stepped an answer? Also, does anyone know if Williams was there in the seminar with him? I just want to know what the organization's philosophy is. Do they think the Cubs route of stripping down completely isn't as good as restocking talent with veterans? I guess I'm not seeing much being asked with the 3 year deal quote being the top news bit out of this whole shebang.
caulfield12
Hahn is cool as a cucumber, but will never get overly emotional under questioning or bristle like KW. You could ask him the same question ten different ways and maybe a sigh or two of exasperation but never anger or tables overturned theatrics. The reason that session wasn't overrun is most Sox fans are smart enough to realize the only one they can upset is KW.
fathom
What do people expect Hahn to day? As someone that wants them to add another impact bat, I was thrilled with the tweets that came out. It was very promising, as they could have easily said "heavy lifting is done, we are confident this is the group we have for ST". The LaRoche stuff was fascinating as well, as it seems he will have to earn playing time this year and if he looks lost in ST, who even knows if he makes the roster. caulfield12
He didn't discount being done and this being THE team, but I'm sure at the very least he realizes the need for a stronger bench player instead of Sanchez/Leury Garcia. If they were to cut LaRoche in the spring, they pretty much have to go after Alvarez. Navarro could do it part-time, but hardly an ideal solution. Garcia would be another obvious possibility if they could find an outfielder to take his spot. Robin talked about LaRoche being a pro and working hard to make sure he's prepared coming into this season. He also mentioned that for whatever reason, LaRoche's numbers seem to spike every other year. Based on what I heard, Robin is confident LaRoche will contribute this year. The LaRoche stuff was fascinating as well, as it seems he will have to earn playing time this year and if he looks lost in ST, who even knows if he makes the roster. that is promising. but i have a problem of sorts with this info, not what you provided but on laroche. i remembered that laroche is a horrible starter in his career. well i look it up on baseball ref and on his splits. i also did the career splits. his march / april stats are really bad. so my question is, i wonder what standard, what baseline will the coaches use to gage for this decision, esp during ST?? The Beast
I don't expect Hahn to say anything and I wasn't there. But I'd prefer to not sit through and see a Q&A session where the GM and VP are Rubio-ing some answers. It would be nice to have all of the questions answered, but I acknowledge that they probably don't have everything figured out going into the season. At least they look loads better on paper than they did last year, although it would look even better if they could take a chance on Lincecum and Jackson. But I think I'm fine with Erik Johnson and Avi Garcia going into this year as long as they get a bat for the bench not named Bonifacio or Beckham.
