To be our righty dh platoon with LaRoche. Or he plays more in the field with Garcia platooning...although the ideal situation would be supersub, DH against lhp and would require addition of Fowler/Jackson with Avi traded or at Charlotte. The Dodgers already have Utley, Hernandez, Micah, Alex Guerrero (at first I looked at him but the splits aren't as favorable), Thompson, Van Slyke, Ethier, Crawford....huge logjam. Hernandez carries incredible positional versatility, a 1.215 ops in 78 career at-bats versus lefties, a 346 OBP and 836 ops last year in 200+ abs but no starting role in LA now in 2016 because of Kendrick and Utley. He was perceived to be good enough to start in CF, LF or 2b. Actually, he has played every position except catcher, 1b and pitcher. And he won't cost Adams or a top prospect...plus, LA knows our system intimately from the Frazier deal so a deal could be put in place quickly. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2015/ALL He's got the Trayce anomaly going...801 career mlb ops in over 300 at bats vs. 722 in milb https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrique_Hernández_(baseball) See last paragaph with Dodgers...plus, you have to like a guy who can dress up in a banana suit Edited January 30, 2016 by caulfield12
BlackSox13
Good eye Caulfield and I like the idea. Hernandez seems to be a player without a position for the Dodgers and would be much more useful to a team like the Sox. Still young at 24 years old too. Bob Sacamano
I don't think he's the odd man out in LA. I think they end up moving Guerrero this spring.

TheFutureIsNear
I think they will still keep k***' just because he's so cheap and so valuable as a utility guy. Gerrero and Van Slyke are the guys I can't see a spot for. I would take either 1, but isn't Guerrero automatically a FA if traded or something like that? Van Slyke makes a lot of sense for both sides in my opinion. Can't what they would want for him, but doubt it would be much.

If he's traded he can opt out after this year but that still doesn't mean they can't trade him or re-work the deal prior if the player is willing. Van Slyke I think is a good bench option for them since he can take at bats from lefties (Ethier, Crawford, Gonzalez). If I had to predict their bench, I'd guess: Back up catcher Hernandez IF/OF Utley 1B/2B/3B Van Slyke 1B/OF (may be a good trade piece though) Ethier (assuming Puig starts. If traded, then Thompson) Thompson and Micah in the minors if they have options left.

They will basically have Van Slyke, Guerrero, and Trayce all competing for their 25th roster spot. Must be nice. And we aren't even discussing the fact that they have about 8 SP's and may not even keep 5 bench bats. And also, can Guerrero play RF/LF at an above average level? Don't think I've ever seen the guy even swing a bat.

They only have so many roster spots though. Starting INF of Turner, Seager, Kendrick, and Gonzalez. Ellis, Barnes, and Grandal at C. These are their OFs: Crawford, Ethier, Puig, Van Slyke, Pederson, Trayce, Guerrero, and Enrique Hernandez. I'd try to get Van Slyke.
