Amazing it's been almost two months since Frazier was acquired and outfield rumors started....and nothing has happened

Especially because it seemed like the rumors were initiated by Sox brass.

It’s time for the White Sox to strike on Dexter Fowler

This is a well written article that sums up the Sox off season to this point. It also reminded me of how cheap Parra signed for without a comp pick attached.

Anyway, I'm really curious as to just how many teams are genuinely interested in signing Fowler.

It seems one of Parra's main motivations for going to Colorado was to play with CarGo. Might have been like Upton there was no mutual interest?

The weird part is the Rockies seemingly lowered Dickerson's value by forcing a move with him or Blackmon. Why they would want to get more expensive with at best an incremental upgrade seems bizarre for a rebuilding team.

And it's not like Parra has been playing great defense recently...if that was the primary consideration over Dickerson it would make SOME sense at least.

For the Dickerson trade the supposed got the young pitcher which the seemed high in and Mcgee which can still trade and probably get a nice piece or 2 back for since alot of teams were interested. Also looking at his splits in home vs away wasn't very good so might killed his value

Because now they have a closer and a young pitcher. They made a crafty decision using their depth. They thought a couple of moves ahead.

Would be nice if the Sox would do that instead of going paycheck to paycheck with zero depth.

The Sox reportedly want a lefty; why didn't they look at Parra themselves?

I see what you're saying Dick and its a very good point. I think RV catches much more grief than he deserves. I mean, just look at what Robin has been given to fill out the lineup card. Avi, Flowers, Soto, Gillaspie, Olt, Beckham and so on. That's just from last year doesn't include the likes of Keppinger, Rios etc. Not trying to bash the FO but they haven't exactly given RV the best options to work with. I think RV deserves some slack and is a better manager than some think.

Overpitches starters, pulls Abreu for pinch runners in late innings in a tie game; intentionally walks the likes of Chris Getz. (he has improved on the latter 2 managerial blunders).

doesn't pinch hit enough, when he had a pinch hitter (Soto) on the bench. (and, no, you don't not use a pinch hitter when down late in games, for the minute chance that the other catcher gets hurt). Rarely made defensive replacements.

Part of it may be Cooper, who was probably at least 1/2 manager. Cooper is Williams' main man.

Too much insularity.

Hopefully Renteria shakes things up.

And, yes, the front office has been less than stellar itself. One area that has been improving is drafting and development; they just prefer proven and declining veterans to their own young players.

Look at Parra's trendline offensively and defensively over the last couple of seasons.

You'll find another version of Austin Jackson with no clear case of regression (especially from a Gold Glove level of play) at his young age.

Two enigmas...although Parra was never a great hitter in the first place.

Arrieta settled for 10.7 tonight so Cubs should now know what they have left financially

That puts the cubs at 160.7M for 19 players. They don't have to worry about the luxury tax threshold so now its a matter of if they have or are they willing to spend the money for another FA.

The Cubs front office is pretty transparent and everything they have said is that they spent their money already. Only way they bring in Fowler is if they trade Hammel and Soler, IMO.

Can the Sox seriously just make their move(s)? This entire offseason has been beyond frustrating.

It's really gotten old. It started out with KW saying Hahn doesn't have a plan, to getting Lawrie (which I was excited about), to getting Frazier (which I was peak excited about), to doing absolutely nothing and watching everyone around them pass them by. I get the need to be smart with your money, but they picked that completely wrong time to become frugal. Worst part about the whole thing is we all knew this was going to happen, only we had enough hope that maybe this time would be different. It's not, or atleast it isn't looking like it will be. An organization of half measures, that's all the Sox will ever be under JR's watch. He has seemingly destroyed 2 franchises but will always be lauded for bringing 7 championships to Chicago. Something 23 was much more responsible for.

Frustrating? Because we didnt acquire someone that no one ever thought we would?

We acquired an All-star 3B and filled our 2B gap, i'd call that a productive offseason.

No one thought the Sox would acquire one of the top 3 OF'ers? Really?

With as much work as the Sox have had to do this offseason, I would say they've made moves but most would agree that on paper it's simply not enough. 1 more sizable move could make the difference.

I didn't expect them to be in the OF market at all really. I thought they'd go after Frazier and make smaller moves.

Hahn even said either at the meetings or after Frazier that they wanted to get a better outfielder with better defense and more offense.

I'm with ya. I really didn't think the Sox would sign one of the big four, though it was fun discussions. Heck, I didn't think they would get Frazier so I'm pretty happy with the additions and subtractions the Sox have made.

I still believe they will find an upgrade for the OF, some how.

Yes it's been productive but when the gm says the Sox wanted to also get better in the outfield and hasn't done it yet and alot of options getting taken off the table and you're less then 2 weeks till pitchers and catcher's report it gets frustrating at that part. Sox still could use better offense from ss, dh and RF. That's a 3rd of your lineup.

I was thinking, doesn't it seem like at this rate we could be nearing Opening Day and the Sox still haven't added an OF yet because there is still 1 or 2 guys left on the market that they are waiting to steal a sweetheart deal from? I feel like they are playing with fire right now with the waiting game and at some point some team is going to say "f*** it, here" and sign these guys because they are tired of seeing the holes on their roster. I just feel like the Sox are trying to squeeze every last penny out of these players to hope a sweet ass deal falls in their lap in it makes me extremely nervous that nothing gets done.
