shipps
QUOTE (bmags @ May 6, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) Now that draft is over I basically just seek out opinions that validate the Bears are gonna be gr8. McShay on his podcast said Bears and Ravens had the best draft, and said Floyd could be DROY. So, superbowl. I am trying to get in the mindset that we may have coaches who can develop raw talent. Lovie was a good defensive coach, but the fact that our pro scouting was so much better than amateur leads me to believe he was better at refining fairly finished products. Its been an adjustment in getting used to the fact that we have coaches that actually can develop guys. The knee jerk reactions with Floyd because people don't factor the development aspect of it when we had so many years of guys that just didnt do much of that. They want a polished talent that wouldnt require development. Floyd is only going to get better and better and better after Fangio and Fox start working in his head and on his body. He will probably be 25 pounds heavier by October.

Which I did NOT see. That is the position he should've been drafted to play in from Day 1. Putting him at DE was incomprehensibly stupid. Brian Urlacher would have been trash if you put him at DE, too.

Speaks to Pace and how he is creating a culture. The Bears want people to perform well and go onto bigger things. Its not like the Lovie years where he wouldnt want anyone that may out perform himself.

Bears will continue to lose guys with the way their front office is structured though. They have Ryan Pace as General Manager and Josh Lucas as Director of Player Personnel. Then they have Champ Kelly as Director of Pro Scouting and Douglas as Director of College Scouting. The Lucas position is a spot that many teams don't even have. For example, when Angelo was GM, Gabriel was College Scouting Director and Bobby DePaul was Pro Scouting Director. Those guys could only leave to take GM jobs. Heading up a personnel department will always be a promotion for Bears guys because Lucas will be above them.

Agree...although technically the Bears could have blocked the Eagles from hiring away from us (and others) as the only real protection they have would be if they were leaving for a GM job. That said, Pace (and Fox) for that matter both seem to be huge proponents of letting guys take promotions elsewhere (even if it hurts the Bears in the short-term, I think they view it as if guys go elsewhere and have success it only makes the Bears jobs more attractive...plus probably something about fresh minds always can bring in new viewpoints, etc). They did block Douglas from interviewing with the Browns earlier this offseason but that was probably done as a favor to him.
3GamesToLove
I'm not much into football these days, but my fiancee is. I've taken her to some preseason games in the 200 level the last couple of years. Those are kind of relaxing and fun but I'd like to take her to a regular season game sometime since I'm always taking her to baseball/basketball games. From StubHub, looks like the game gainst Tennessee in late November is by far the most affordable (aside from Christmas Eve). I can get in for under $100, which seems unheard of from what I've seen in the past. Is the 400 level really bad? What if it's within the first 15 rows? Is it worth the upgrade to get into 300? I'd like to stay under $150 if possible.

They release pretty nice seats around 5 pm on Fridays before home games. As far as way up on the 400 level, I haven't been up there but my sister was given tickets and said it sort of sucked. Of course she was also in the corner.

I've sat in the top row of the 400 level in below freezing temps. It was like watching a game in hell. Plus it was against the packers. Its a hike to do anything from way up there. Of course the closer is better, but I don't think you HAVE to spend up if you are trying to stick to a budget. However, the biggest downside is that the only entrance/exit to the 400 level is at the bottom of the section. And the stairs are steep. So if you are in row 25, that means you have to go up 25 rows each and every time. If you plan on sitting in your seat most of the game, then it's not as big of a deal. But if you plan on making multiple food/beverage/potty trips, then it becomes a bit more annoying.
lostfan
My own personal feeling is that attending NFL games in person is overrated. It costs a metric f***ton of money first of all, and you have a harder time following everything that's going on than you do on TV. I am amused by people debating what did or didn't happen during a game and someone chimes in saying "well, I was at that game and..." as though it validates their experience. lol, no, the rest of us saw that play in HD in multiple angles with slow motion replays, you were sitting 350 feet away, stop it.
