Former Bear Eben Britton wrote about being a functional drug addict in the NFL. Some pretty crazy stuff here

Interesting what he says about the 2014 bears team after they got smoked by NE

That is an impressive read. Bravo to the guy stepping up to publicly out himself to make the story.

I go to Bears games for the people watching and stay for the football. At times, I definitely think about how it would be nice to watch at home (and more closely follow my gambling/fantasy action), but I just enjoy the atmosphere of sporting events.

Ditto. I'll go to one every few years when the Bears are in the vicinity. That is it. Have no real desire to see them in person. Have a hard time figuring out what the hell is even going on.

HD TV's have just changed things for the sports fan. The picture is incredible, its located right near a nice clean bathroom and I can fall asleep.

I read what really eats into NFL attendance is fantasy football, which is supposedly also a reason the NFL's popularity vs. other sports. A huge amount of people want to watch multiple games at the same time. It's good for bars.

Yes this is also a reason why I like to stay at home. If less people were going to bears games, though, perhaps I could afford a ticket.

The TV is where the big money is at, though. (same is true of baseball, actually). That's the main reason CFL players make so much less than NFL players despite the fact that the CFL is pretty popular in Canada and has strong attendance.

That's why NFL teams have been upgrading their in-stadium WiFi and some offer little TVs at certain seats. The Bears offer season tickets holders free NFL RedZone on mobile phones so they can watch at the game.

I know there's the whole social crowd/atmosphere aspect, but paying a bunch of money to go to the stadium to end up watching the game on a 5" screen sounds ridiculous.

Although I think I would always prefer to watch a game at home i still think there is value in going to a game. The handful of Bears games that I have been to were memorable experiences. I think you cheer harder and are way more elated when they make big plays then when you do at home. You feel the energy so much more and there is no way you can fully replicate that watching it from home on tv.

Are there some plays you don't see? Of course, but for the most part you can see the basics of what happened and literally be a part of the show with your booing and cheering.

I have ST's for the Bears and I love going to games. Someone earlier said they love being at sporting events, and I'm the same way. I watch so many games across the NHL, MLB and NFL and I find myself saying "man, the f***ed up stuff I'd do to be in that atmosphere." An example is how little I care about most schools for major college football yet I try to go to a different game every year.

Yeah I was excited for that. Not only signifies the Bears see him as valuable, but that Willie may be more bought into this role than he was last year.

I would think so. He wanted to be traded last season.

I didn't really blame him for that. He didn't really sign up to play OLB in a 3-4 and he thought he was coming to excel as a 4-3 rushing specialist, which he was doing, and the new defensive scheme was holding him back. But he started finding his place maybe he changed his mind.

Plus, I think he definitely likes it here too.

Soldier Field also sucks to get to. Unless you have a waldron deck pass its awful. I prefer tailgating and leaving to actually going.

College games on the other hand...

It's easy on the train.

I was never a big fan of John Fox, and to be honest I'm still not, but one thing I can say in his favor is he's got a reputation of being a good coach to work for and players really like playing for him.

If you have verizon you get more access plus the views of all of the stadium cameras.

OT Jake Long working out with the Bears today.

They do have a roster spot as well after releasing OT Tayo Fabuluje yesterday. Not that they couldn't just cut someone and create a spot anyway though.

Is he any good these days?

Just always hurt. Would be their best option to be the 3rd OT though. They'd have:

OT: Massie, Leno, Long,

OG: Long, Whitehair, Larsen, Ramirez

C: Ramirez, Grasu

That's pretty solid.
