The Sox Should Claim Sean Nolin

Eminor3rd

Recommended Posts

No, he hasn't been good in the majors, and that's why he was DFA'd. However, he did fine in the minors, is a formerly highly regarded prospect, and would presumably be happy stashed in Charlotte. And the Sox still need SP depth. And we are actually in a position to win the claim for once.

i totally agree..... i was waiting for someone to post this. i thought BS13 would for sure.

too much upside and the cost is nothing but a gamble.

i was thinking this could be another Jose Quintana as a gamble looking forward.

I'm game. Claim him and give him a shot to earn a spot in ST.

heck yeah i shot to make the team, not necessarily the major roster. but more develop time, maybe the coaches can see a problem... heck if doesn't cost anything.

The 40 man roster is finally full, which means if they want to bring in another major leaguer, they would have to cut an additional player if they made a claim like this.

As to the player, If the Sox see something they can alter, I have no problem with it.

Plenty of garbage on the 40 they can dfa.

Taking a look at the 40-man, I actually don't see any obvious guys to dump -- there are guys EYE would dump, but I assume the Sox might/probably like them as much or more than Nolin.

Here are the potentials that jumped out:

OF Jerry Sands

IF Leury Garcia

OF Daniel Fields

SP Scott Carroll

SP Brandon Brennan

RP Tommy Kahnle

RP Zach Phillips

RP Michael Ynoa

If the Sox signed another OF, I could see them cutting one of those OF's. Outside of that, Carroll has been removed from the 40 man roster once, and would be a probably target again.

You didn't list Olt as well but him Sands and Fields are probably 3. Carroll is another one who would probably clear waivers.

Good call on Olt. I imagine he'd be the first to go if the Sox sign an OF and presumably give Avi platoon at-bats at DH.

Just asking and not criticizing but do you think the Sox would dump Kahnle after trading Almonte for him?

No chance IMO. His name has come up a couple of times.

It wouldn't make sense to be honest, with all do respect to Eminor.

IIRC, I think it was you that said Carroll would likely be the pitcher to go first and I agree. Imo, there more upside potential in Nolin than Carroll.

Plenty of AAAA candidates on the 40 man right now.

i agree.... esp in the pitching group. the thing is, i am sooo water down in seeing the sox minor league, i really can't gage them honestly .... this is on me for not having the ability to look beyond me being a biased fan.

No, I don't think it's likely. He was one of the guys I figured they "probably like more than Nolin" but I included because he seems like a rando to me.
