southsider2k5
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 10, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) I think 7 years and $175 is a great deal for the Nationals. Strasburg is very good and that's what those guys cost. He could have gotten more on the open market. Should have a front 3 of Scherzer, Strasburg, and Giolito for years to come. I'd love to pry Tanner Roark away from them. He has opt outs after 3 and 4 years. If he wants to leave, he can.
chw42
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ May 10, 2016 -> 07:59 AM) Based on my novice level lip reading ability, it looks like he might be doing a quick homage to Andrew Shaw. None of that was very mormon of Bryce. I think saying something homophobic is gonna get him in way more trouble than telling that umpire to f*** himself. ptatc
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ May 10, 2016 -> 08:03 AM) Nats will regret this contract. They should be saving every dime for Harper right now. He'll be worth the biggest contract in baseball. Pitching is more important than hitting. Also, maybe Washington has already realized that Harper will be beyond their finances with New York, LA and Anaheim fighting for him. It would not surprise me if they already know he wants to go to ones of those primary markets.

southsider2k5
QUOTE (ptatc @ May 10, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) Pitching is more important than hitting. Also, maybe Washington has already realized that Harper will be beyond their finances with New York, LA and Anaheim fighting for him. It would not surprise me if they already know he wants to go to ones of those primary markets. This would not shock me at all. I think Stras rightly understands his injury history and chances, Harper doesn't have that. There isn't the risk for him to avoid being a free agent. BaconOnAStick
Harper is going to get $500m+ from the Yankees, everyone knows it. Anaheim, LA, maybe even the Cubs if they havent won anything at that point and Theo is getting desperate, will bid hard for him. But the Yankees have been slashing payroll and doing a soft rebuild in anticipation of his free agency... wouldn't shock me to see Harper traded to the Yanks this offseason or next offseason. Trent Rosecrans @ctrent Bryan Price said Mesoraco had surgery today, damage was worse than anticipated. Recovery now at 6 mos. That's why players accept those "team-friendly" contracts. He had a breakout All-Star season, signed an extension with the Reds, will have played 39 total games in 2 seasons since then and who knows what the future holds. But he is financially set for life (if he doesn't screw it up)
