They are the team to worry about because they have comparable starting pitching and can go 5-6 deep there...

Offensively, Kipnis, Brantley, Santana, Napoli, Gomes and Lindor give them six legit threats. Plus they have a much better farm system than anyone in the division that's competing legitimately for the division.

...and they have Francona.

Cuthbert/Colon will probably be their first two options...whether they can hold the fort or not offensively will be the question.

Some other players in that line-up really will need to step up besides Hosmer. Cain and especially Morales still struggling.

Chris Young, a crafty and fierce veteran, has allowed 13 homers in 32 1/3 innings this season. On Monday, he faced 14 batters and surrendered five solo shots, including two by former Royal Carlos Beltran, a 39-year-old who entered Monday batting just .236 this season. The homer assault represented all of the damage Young allowed in 2 2/3 innings. It was enough to ensure that the Royals continued their precipitous fall, even after solo homers from Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer, who went deep for the sixth time this season.

I like to see the Royals losing like this, but I'm a bit scared by the Yankees bats coming alive just in time for our trip to Yankee Stadium.

They did this against Chris Young and Kris Medlen, with an assist from Joakim Soria.

Both Young and Medlen to the DL today

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi

#Royals place 40% of rotation on DL in 1 press release: Chris Young (right forearm strain), Kris Medlen (right rotator cuff inflammation).

This might be nearing the official end of the Tigers' ERA in the ALCD...

Had a 5-0 lead at Balt with Pelfrey pitching his first decent game of the year and the bullpen's copied the White Sox fiasco in TX (granted, they're actually using their "best" relievers and still getting rocked).

7-5 Orioles going to the top of the 8th.

5 over CLE, 6 1/2 over KC, 7 1/2 over DETROIT

High water mark for Sox was 6/7/8 after Monday.

Cleveland's got a three game series in Minnesota, and we have Tanaka Sunday...so wouldn't be shocked to see the Indians pick up at least one game. Then again, the Twins have to beat SOMEONE this year.

Yankees have won 5 of their last 7.

Nothing like the Indians getting 4 games next week vs the Reds

Indians play the Reds and Nationals four games, and the Sox play the Cubs and Phillies four games. Hope that becomes a wash in the end.

Twins up 2-1 on Kluber in the 5th. They'll blow it.
