Balta1701
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 10:19 AM) Dont know why, but Arrietta just isnt efficient like he was last year. but like Brian said, he is still nasty AF. He just gets wild According to the Fangraphs strike zone stats, he's actually throwing strikes at a comparable rate to last year, but batters are swinging at stuff out of the zone notably less than the last several years. This could be a deliberate game plan on their part - can't hit him so force him to work, or it could be that he's throwing things that are more obviously out of the zone when a pitch does get away from him. That just seems crazy when he is going 5IP with 100 pitches like he has been recently. Im not disagreeing with fangraphs but he just seems like he is overworking this year whereas last year he seemed like he was easily cruising into the 7th and 8th innings under 90 pitches

YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
Despite what the stats say, Arrieta is not the same pitcher as he was last year. Not even close.
fathom
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 05:46 PM) Cubs are calling up top C prospect Willson Contreras. Just never ends for them. Which current hitters did they develop? Schwarber, Bryant, and arguably Rizzo arrived ready to hit. Who is next? Baez? Justin Bour's hitting cleanup for the Marlins and was blocked by Rizzo, The Rangers backup catcher Robinson Chirinos was one of theirs. Anyone else I'm forgetting? Edit: Junior Lake, the opposing CF today, was in their org for a while.

shipps
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 05:26 PM) Cubs are 4-6 their last 10 yet gained ground on STL and Pit. Yeah the Central doesnt pose a threat to the Cubs anymore. They got way too far out in front for that to happen, plus the talent just isnt there for those tow clubs anyway. The Cubs are going to have a rougher go of things once the playoffs start. They may ultimately still win it all but they better not think its going to be a cake walk in the post season likes its been in the regular season. The Giants and Nationals will be really tough to beat in a series.
Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 07:41 PM) They made some changes to Rizzo and Russell IIRC Yeah they adjusted Rizzo's hands and bat movement since he's gotten there. In San Diego, he batted more open and held his hands a lot higher.

Panerista
Pretty sure even if the Cubs make it through the stacked NL playoffs, they will get killed by the AL winner.
caulfield12
Of course, Chicago-native and future All-Star Ben Zobrist has to bail out the Cubs with a leaping snag of a play, doubling off the runner...that's just the way this season is going. WhiteSoxfan1986
J.J. Hoover gets completely squeezed on a Zobrist walk in the 15th. caulfield12
Baez for Nate Jones and David Robertson. Why not? Might as well help the Cubs win a World Series so about 5 years from now the city of Chicago is finally bored with it...unless they have their Braves'-like dynasty. Panerista
Damn this Cubs team is a fun watch. Joe Maddon is playing Go when the rest of the league is playing checkers. Edited June 29, 2016 by Deadpool
caulfield12
Burdi, Hansen and Fulmer can take the place of Robertson/Jones at a fraction of the cost. They're going to have to do something dramatic to change this team. Paying Robertson that kind of elite closer salary two years in a row on middling teams is absolutely pointless.
