Is Jake some kind of machine? Will he ever come back down to life?

It isn't like he wasn't at one point one of the best prospects in all of baseball. If he comes back down to earth, it will be because of injuries or fatigue (due to recent innings loads) not a lack of talent. When you watch him, this isn't a guy getting a way with smoke and mirrors, this guy is nasty. Easily one of the best in the game and he's really done it for two years now. If it was one year, sure, you could to some extent call it a fluke and expect some regression but he's done nothing but get better every single year since he's put on a Cub uniform.

They had already decided that after the last out of the playoffs last year.

Honestly, maybe its because I live far away, but most every Cub fan I talk to out here this off-season has ever given any delusions that they are going to win the series. They all understand that winning the series involves some luck, the ultimate goal is really reaching the playoffs and than from there, you see what happens. They also are nothing but worried of collapses given their past.

Also, on paper, I see no reason not to have the Cubs as one of the frontrunners to win the series. They were a really good team last year, who should get better due to growth from young players, along with some major acquisitions, most notably Heyward who is beloved by statisticians everywhere.

In Chicago, the outlook is a lot more certain. So much so, you can almost see the anvil about to be dropped on the coyotes head.

Yep, same here with cub fans I've talked to. Playing the regular season games is just a formality.

LOL so true. That is the one thing that really makes me think it wont end well for them. They are just too sure that it is almost ALL a formality until game seven of the WS when "fate" kicks in and they finally get their WS. They are only worried about luck as the final domino to fall at the end of this season.

I think they will eventually win a world series with this core but I think its going to be in a season that they arent the favorite and dont have a huge bulls eye on their backs.
