ChiSox59
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) This was my thought as well. If Rollins can start, Saladino makes a nice utility guy. Does Carlos Sanchez have any value? Sanchez/Petricka get a decent OF or probably not? I would think Petricka plus low level guy could get you Guyer. Maybe don't even need the low level guy. Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) I still don't think the Sox trust Sanchez to be a solid SS due to arm strength. Agree and made a similar point towards the top of this page.
Princess Dye
Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal 18s19 seconds ago Rollins, per source, rejected 2 teams that offered super-utility jobs and guaranteed deals for more $. Wanted chance to win SS job with CWS.
fathom
Interesting how the Sox have added depth at starting pitching and middle infield, two places they were lacking in depth at. Now, here comes the outfield position.

elrockinMT
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 06:12 PM) Eh. Rollins isn't coming here as a back up, I would almost bet on it. He is either a starter, or he will be released. He is on a minor league deal, which means there is nothing at risk right now, and I am sure he has an opt out, or a handshake agreement about playing time. This is asurprise move with the potential for a good return. Rollins has talent and might still have a good year left in the tank
Y2Jimmy0
Last season, Rollins had a wRC+ of 114 vs LHP as RHB. Only hit 2 homers though. He was worse as a LHB vs RHP but did hit 11 homers.

ChiSoxFanMike
How much would he make if he made the team? This isn't a flashy move, but at least he'd provide veteran leadership if nothing else.

I am sure he has a release date for being activated to the 25 man roster, probably at the end of March. I would also guess he got a handshake agreement that if they don't see him as the starter at that point, Hahn will let him explore other options. BlackSox13
Nothing wrong with giving Saladino some competition but I seriously doubt Rollins can beat Saladino for the SS job. Rollins' defense took a big hit last season and didn't hit any better than Saladino. Still like the signing since there's really no risk. flavum
Doesn't hurt anything, and it probably wouldn't be a bad thing for Rollins to be around Tim Anderson for six weeks.
ChiSoxFanMike
Just add Rollins to the ever growing list of players that the Sox get past their primes. Griffey, Ramirez, Vizquel, Jones, Dunn, LaRoche, etc. It's pathetic.
SoCalSox
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) Just add Rollins to the ever growing list of players that the Sox get past their primes. Griffey, Ramirez, Vizquel, Jones, Dunn, LaRoche, etc. It's pathetic. I see no real issue with this move. Not like they just gave him $5M for the year to be a question mark. Literally no risk involved here. Could end up being a smart move that we look back on as being worth a win or two w/ bench roles, etc.
