Just add Rollins to the ever growing list of players that the Sox get past their primes.

Griffey, Ramirez, Vizquel, Jones, Dunn, LaRoche, etc. It's pathetic.

Dunn was a disaster his first year with the bat, but honestly, I would gladly take his year 2-3-4 on the Sox right now instead of LaRoche.

This Rollins move might make spring training a little more interesting, dot think he has much left in the tank tho. Carlos Sanchez definitely has no place on this team if Rollins makes it.

I see no real issue with this move. Not like they just gave him $5M for the year to be a question mark. Literally no risk involved here. Could end up being a smart move that we look back on as being worth a win or two w/ bench roles, etc.

I'm not angry about it, I just posted a trend that I continue to see on a yearly basis.

Who knows, maybe this signing could end up being a bargain. Either way, the Sox had nothing to lose by signing Rollins and I can't fault the FO for taking a chance on him.

"We envision Jimmy contributing both on and off the field," Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager, said in the club's statement. "He provides us with another quality infield option with the potential to play a variety of roles, as well as another significant positive presence inside our clubhouse."

It's not like they gave him all their available funds and are counting on him being a big contributor. There is nothing wrong with this move. Some were perplexed when Alexei's $10 million option wasn't picked up last fall. Guess what, this guy has been better the last couple of years.

I was advocating for this earlier. He either pushes Saldino to utility (where he belongs) or he IS the utility guy. Either way, he's probably better than Sanchez (who goes to Charlotte or is traded).

I'm a fan of the Rollins pickup, but I'd much rather have a backup IF who can hit from the left side like Sanchez given the makeup of the infield. Regardless, having some depth is a good problem to have. Saladino can also play some OF, which would make him a true utility guy.

Actually Jones had a pretty good year for the Sox.

Nothing to lose with this move although I'm not expecting much out of him.

The great part about this is it's a minor league contract. If he shows he really has nothing left, they are under zero pressure to keep him. Plus he is motivated to show his tank isn't empty, and Saladino benefits from some competition.

Yeah I am fine with it. When negative opinions come out with moves like this its because of the expectations that the fans had in seeing a bigger name or more glamorous move. A guy like this obviously doesnt satisfy the Sox fans thirst for a big move. But we made plenty of big moves last off season sooooo...

So you think that Rollins is still in his prime? I guess he could be, but it seems unlikely as he's already 37 years old.

This is off-topic, but this signing pretty much wipes out the chance of the Sox going after Desmond, right?
