Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) Theoretically they could potentially send Garcia to AAA since he is working on a new stance/mechanics or I guess trade him. I would be perfectly fine with Garcia starting the year in AAA and Sands serving as LaRoche's platoon partner.
fathom
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 11:19 PM) Do wonder if this creates LaRoche / Avi platoon, or if Avi still gets plenty of starts in the OF and Melky to DH more often. Avi will get plenty of at bats. What I like is this move hopefully allows him to not worry about defense

Well it could do both. LaRoche DH against righties. Melky DH with Avi in the outfield against lefties.

Me too. And if LaRoche tanks again or gets hurt, you can call up a guy in Garcia who's been getting regular every day reps. Whisox05
So who gets cut from roster to make room for Jackson. Will have to make another roster move for opening day to put Rollins on too.

I'm honestly kind of hoping Melky sees more DH time. He's actually been WORSE defensively in LF. Crazy how much of a pass he's gotten over Avi by fans. OmarComing25
We could not unreasonably expect a ~.750 OPS from a LaRoche/Avi or LaRoche/Sands platoon at DH, and that would be fine.

SoxAce
What I like (and hope) is with Eaton and Jackson maning the OF, you can hide either Cabrera or Garcia since both are terrible.
credezcrew24
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) I really don't think there's a chance Avi goes to the minors He's 24. He should be getting regular at bats, and as much time in the outfield as possible. The problem is that's not going to happen in the majors. If the White Sox want to see him develop to his full potential he needs to be in AAA.

DBAHO
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 05:07 PM) I have to imagine so. LaRoche is such a wild card LaRoche certainly shouldn't get any AB's against lefties now. .383 OPS against them last season. Improves our defense, Garcia / Jackson / Eaton can rotate AB's as a DH against lefties if need be, so I think this move makes a lot of sense. And Jackson has a lot to prove after 2 down seasons. Good time to buy low really.
SoxAce
I still wish Avi played LF. There is no way he can possibly be any worse than Melky.

dmbjeff
This one move fills so many holes. Excellent signing and I am glad a move has finally been made. 1.Improves OF Defense tremendously. His upgrade over Avi/Cabrera is huge. Moving Eaton to a corner is much better. I'd expect to see Eaton in RF. 2. Improves DH so LaRoche is only facing RHP and allows for someone like Avi to face LHP. Gives some better value and flexibility to DH spot and allows for a rotation vs. LHP of Avi/Cabrera or Frazier or Lawrie with Saladino/Sanchez playing 3B or 2B. 3. $$$ Still room for more improvements. While some were waiting on the Sox to spend $20-25 million on Cespedes, they have now went out and spent $10 million on Jackson/Rollins/Latos. Still room to spend, yes, not now on FA's per se, but allows financial wiggle room for trades down the line. I imagine they may need to bolster rotation or DH in July if still in the hunt, which ideally they should be. Massive improvements over a year ago. Kudos to Rick Hahn for being patient and working deals. Edited March 6, 2016 by dmbjeff
