outside the laroche updates, this is a reason why i really like getting rollins, he is a leader and i really do not know in what context he was speaking, but to me, it is like a team capt talking and saying the right words.

nice.

ref to laroche, here is to you and your great career. :cheers

Rongey's on the Score right now, says he's hearing that LaRoche just doesn't want to play baseball anymore. This sounds about right and if that's the case I really hope he sticks to his decision.

Yep, looked like he stopped having no fun last year. Good news is that it doesn't sound like it's anything relating to bad family/health issues.

Well, at least for today, the solution was Eaton at DH, but that really doesn't help our outfield defense much when you have Garcia and Cabrera both playing.

At some point they're going to have to decide which is the best option, Eaton in LF and Cabrera DHing with Garcia in RF, trying to move Cabrera to RF...then there's the options in the form of Sands and Shuck, but that's not ideal, either.

The most LIKELY solution would be Jay Bruce, because of the LH preference, but then you still have to put him or Garcia or Cabrera in RF...which couldn't be any worse than last year, I guess.

Is Dominic Brown still available? Nope...looks like he's with the Jays, who still have a surplus.

Michael Saunders?

Travis Snider would have been another possibility, but the Royals control his rights for now.

There are plenty of LH options, but not many are what you would consider "power" hitters or middle of the line-up guys.

I do wonder what the mood on here will be like if LaRoche changes his mind

you know, that is not even funny,

too bad this forum doesn't have a penalty box for bad suggestions.

Morneau's level of hatred for the Sox is typically reserved for a player who has been DFA'd or dragged through the mud in arbitration. Which is to say that his visceral hatred for the Sox makes no freaking sense.

I'm sorry guys. I think I might be the problem. Morneau probably doesn't want to play for the Sox because I booed him and told him he sucked several times.

I still don't like the Twins.

That's becoming very common in the NFL, but not in baseball at all. It's a surprising decision when you are passing up $13 million for 7 months of work, but I guess you can do that when you have already made $71 million on your career.

For the Sox sake, it would have been nice if he made this decision in November, a la Calvin Johnson in football, but I can totally see him being on the fence, then a trip to spring training confirming your decision.

At this point I wouldn't trade Avi for Bruce.Need another good fielding OF and Bruce does not qualify.

Just trade in one tall, white, mid- 30's, DH/1B of French descent for another. Monsieur Morneau votre table est prête.

After thinking about this during the evening, I'm not so sure the need to add another outfielder. If LaRoche does retire, it opens the door for the Sox to put one of Avi/Melky in the DH spot and keep one of them off the field which is what many of us wanted all along. Once healthy Eaton can play RF with Jackson in CF and Melky/Avi in LF/DH. Shuck and probably Sands would be the bench outfielders.

We didn't use LaRoche at first much at all anyway, so no loss. I do hope Abreu keeps developing as a fielder as well as slugger. But this really helps the team. Adam can't hit lefties anymore and because of his veteran status he'd have driven us crazy going something like five hits in every 60, 70 at bats versus lefties. Now we don't have to put up with that. Yes it can only help the team having him retire. He wasn't going to have a real bounceback year.

That's what I thought but still need another LH bat and Morneau fills that void better than LaRoche if he can avoid hurting his head in any way. No headbanging or slaps on the helmet for him during walk offs. Have to beat the Red Sox to the punch since they are interested. Morneau bashes righties and is better than LaRoche against lefties.
