GreenSox
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 2, 2016 -> 09:04 AM) Murphy has always been underrated and he can DH and Shuck can still be on the bench. I'd prefer him to Sands and Ishikawa. Again, the Angels and Tribe, two teams with questionable OFs, don't want him. And he played for each last season. And then there's the clubhouse factor. These guys have worked hard all spring, and you dispatch them for a marginal castoff.

Well if you bothered to actually read my full post, he'd pretty much be the 6th OF mostly being DH (likely never seeing the OF grass). So idk why you keep hammering in the questionable OF point. But most likely the bottom line is money. Sands is dirt cheap and Loney, Murphy and even to a lesser degree Ishy would cost more.

These are human beings and things come into play. Maybe Murphy wants a guarantee of playing time. Maybe Shuck is big in the clubhouse. Maybe Hahn is holding out for a bigger prize. Boston held him pretty late but they are stacked w young talent. My guess is Murphy is hoping on an injury this last weekend that opens up an ML spot. My guess is he will eventually sign a minor league deal w Boston if nothing develops. Loney probably also wants some guarantee. This is the 25th spot and Hahn is most likely working on spare change to fill it.
Vance Law
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 2, 2016 -> 05:38 AM) Going with Shuck over Murphy is dumb. I'd take Shuck and Murphy, not Sands. Team is too not-good-at-hitting-righties. Pitchers are mostly right handed. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Sands doesn't finish April with the Sox. Buehrle>Wood
Why is Sands even on the roster? He's appeared in 1 of 7 games and that 1 was only because we were getting blown out. He's very redundant as many here projected

bmags
2 reserve outfielders is very difficult unless one of them has a niche specialty, which Sands does not. I maintain I'd rather Leury up due to speed.
Dick Allen
It's 7 games into the season. Sands will find some time. BTW after 7 games 2005 White Sox 5-2 27 runs scored 26 runs allowed. 2016 White Sox 5-2 28 runs scored 21 runs allowed. No need to hit the panic button yet. bmags
I'm not sure anyone is panicking. But it was around this time last year it was pretty clear Beckham was reserve infielder of choice and Bonifacio was behind both him and shuck for time...and he barely played. Granted he later sucked but Robin just doesn't seem to need that 2nd reserve player. Especially with LaRoche out, our team has so much more flexibility with LF/RF that Sands just has no place, especially with not being a RHP masher or speedy or defensively gifted. bmags
Pretty sure Robin will have no issues putting together a lineup against LHP without Sands. Pretty easy to jump to conclusions 7 games in when it already didin't seem to make sense 0 games in. When your DH is already an outfielder, needing 2 additional outfielders is a lot. Harry Chappas
The White Sox need a defensive outfielder and base running threat. They do not not Sands or Shuck for that matter as neither are much better then Melky in any aspect and Melky is the guy they need to replace. The issue with another pitcher is that he MUST be used. They can't sit a pitcher for 10 games and not use him. If they don't think the last pitcher is worth a spot on the MLB, then there shouldn't be one. I can see the posts now" why put in X pitcher he's terrible, just because he is on the roster doesn't mean they need to put him in X situation." A position player can be buried on the bench. I agree that a base stealer/pinch runner should be the last guy on the bench. A latter day Herb Washington, if you will.
YouCanPutItOnTheBoardYES!
I really wish the Sox had a speedster like Gore or Dyson from KC that they could put in towards the end of the game if they are losing by a run or two.
