OK, excluding retired numbers, 13 and 56 which are going to be retired, and 6, which is quasi-retired, who is your favorite (not necessarily best) Sox player to wear each number. Some of the higher numbers I didn't pick anybody because there wasn't anybody I liked enough to mention

1 - Lance Johnson

5 - Ray Durham

7 - Scott Fletcher

8 - Bo Jackson

10 - Alexei Ramirez

12 - AJ Pierzynski

15 - Tadahito Iguchi

17 - Ross Gload

18 - Claudell Washington

20 - Ron Karkovice

What's the deal with nobody wearing #6 but it not being retired?

Charley Lau was the Sox hitting coach in 1983- he may have been sick already. He died before the 84 season, and Reinsdorf unofficially retired the number. I think Walt Hriniak wore it, but it's been out of commission.

The Lau thing is bizarre. Classic Reinsdorf White Sox...if you're going to retire it, they should have retired it in the 80s. Now it's just a weird thing.

Agreed. Put up an In Memorium plaque in the park, but retiring a good low number that a player would like to wear is overboard.

I started making a list like the OP, but it was basically just players from 2005-2016 given my lack of baseball watching experience, so I stopped at number 28... DeWayne Wise

That's part of why I started this thread, to see how the lists of Sox fans of different ages would differ. Players like Dick Allen and Wilbur Wood probably make the lists of Sox players who are older than me.

The school of Charley Lau turned out Frank Thomas.

I know way more about the White Sox franchise and it's history than I like to admit but for some reason player numbers never really stuck to me. I barely know anyone's. Off the top of my head it's Frank Thomas 35 and Nick Swisher "Dirty 30" (yuck).

Same here. I would have to do this backwards, pick a player and go look up their number. Which seriously isn't happening. But I like reading everyone's lists.

I'm kind of surprised by the lack of Ken Griffey Jr. in all of these lists. He obviously wasn't here very long, but it was cool to see him in a Sox uniform.

Yeah, but 17 is Carlos May: The only player in history to wear his birthday on the back of his Jersey.

I'm pretty much the same way.
