southsider2k5
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:52 AM) Writing law around extreme edge case hypotheticals to the detriment of significantly more people seems like a bad idea imo. If a creep-o guy wants to troll womens' restrooms, that seems like an awful lot of hurdles to jump through to have some sort of really tenuous legal standing. Some would argue this whole thing is an extreme edge thing.
Texsox
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) What's stopping the creep-o guy we're talking about here from being able to designate that he's a female? It's not like you can perform a test to determine your gender identity. What's stopping the creepy old guy from dressing like a woman now and going in the restroom? Again, nothing. But when it comes time to prosecute, a man without a legal right to be in a woman's restroom is an easier case to prosecute than a man with a legal right as a self-identified woman to be there. But when it comes time to prosecute, a man without a legal right to be in a woman's restroom is an easier case to prosecute than a man with a legal right as a self-identified woman to be there. The legal right isnt what everyone is up in arms about. Its the leering, staring, ogling, etc. Anyone, man, woman, man identifying as a woman, woman identifying as a man, does not have any right to do that to someone else. And if a guy is in a womans bathroom staring at a woman going to the bathroom, then he is gonna eb busted regardless because he would have to go to great lengths to do so considering there is stalls. Dick Allen
How often do people get prosecuted for using the incorrect restroom? This is such a waste of time. Women's restrooms have stalls. Men's restrooms have stalls and urinals. If you are afraid someone might be leering at you, it's pretty easy to solve.

The whole thing on both sides in relation to this matter is a giant f***ing waste of time. Our government has far more important things to deal with that they have been ignoring forever. No one has gotten much anything done in Washington in recent time. We have an economy, low rates, defense issues (terrorism), etc. Yet we are wasting our time on s*** that impacts what, .1% of the population? Focus time on how to deal with income inequality, etc. The amount of time that gets spent on something that impacts so few people is just completely absurd. It is kind of like when congress was wasting its time on steroids in baseball when this country had far greater issues.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 5, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Terrorism is such a tiny little blip on the radar of issues with this country its hilarious how often its brought up. Terrorism is happening all over the world. I don't think it is a little blip at all. We invest billions in it and are currently at war all over the world largely driven by it. So to call it a little blip seems pretty crazy. We benefit greatly from being isolated geographically (vs. Europe), but it is a real issue and a real threat. That doesn't mean I walk around the world worried about it, but the reality is their are a lot of radical people in this world willing to give their lives to kill innocent people for the "greater" good (in the terrorists confused eyes). To have a successful government you need to have safe borders and a safe society, education, and good quality infrastructure, imo. I do agree with you that some people overblow it in the grand scheme of things (like plenty of other issues). And of course what one person finds important can drastically differ from what another person finds important. But in general, having a country relatively free from terrorism, benefits/impacts every single citizen of the country.
greg775
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) I don't think people are worried about the actual trans people. People are worried about the straight guys who will claim to be trans in order to go into a women's shower room. People are also worried about their daughters being forced to see naked men, trans or straight. Exactly. Psychos will do whatever to be satisfied. It's like the crime of exposing oneself. Some people have this weird urge to do it and cops will tell you it's a crime that WILL occur every night in every community. Let me get this straight. People are going to boycott states that pass the restriction law, yet this law will allow me to walk into a women's restroom at a movie theatre and go right up to the sink and start using it and looking around. I don't have to be dressed as a woman; when I'm caught by the usher doing it I say, "I recently began the transition to being a woman; I have a legal right to be in here!!" Seems a harsh penalty to states that want to keep me in this scenario in the men's room. p.s. No offense to the transgendered, really, but do any of you blame me for not walking in the Subway restaurant when I was in my car and saw the man wearing women's high heels and miniskirt walking in? He would have been in line ahead of me and eating there and sorry, I'm human, he grossed me out.

In terms of deaths of US citizens its extremely minor. Worldwide there has been about 300-350 US deaths by terrorism in the last decade. On average that is 30 per year. For comparison, texting and driving kills 11 TEENS every single day.
