Go to the game thread when he dropped the throw from Frazier and Baltimore tied it up. 4/30 post #423

Nightingale was on CSN and said Lincecum really isn't a fit for the White Sox. He thinks he would be very unsuccessful in the AL.

Wow, I didn't think you were really that petty. Apparently I need to lower the bar.

Eh, I'm giving this one to DA.

Someone saying Abreu then wanting scrap heap is laughable.

Some decent pitchers from the NL would be worse in the AL. Lincecum hasn't been good in the NL even when he was the healthiest he's been in years. Guy is toast and we have way better internal options at this point.

If the cost were the same as Jacob Turner, it would probably be mostly paid back in terms of increased ticket sales...but I'm not sure if Lincecum's willing to go THAT low in terms of his desperation level to return to MLB.

Then again, John Lackey pitched for a pittance last year and didn't complain TOO much about it.

All things considered, Lincecum's got to be in a more forgiving park like KC, Detroit, Minnesota, Seattle, NL West, etc., where he has increased margin for error.

Lincecum would increase ticket sales exactly how? Guy has barely pitched the last couple years and casual fans barely remember him.

The Giants make sense for him, big park and with Peavy/Cain both getting lit up they might as well give him a chance.

Giants Nation! Those who were/are unable to get Cubs' tickets the last few years to see the Giants?

One would have to think if the casual baseball family who goes once or twice a year were choosing, they at least have heard of Lincecum, compared to Johnson/Gonzalez/Turner. Of course, that's not one of the MAIN concerns to the front office, but they might as well turn over every stone...as long as it also makes sense for baseball operations (see Manny Ramirez acquisition in 2010).

I didn't know this before, but apparently Lincecum has a degenerative hip condition in both hips.

So did Jack McDowell in one of his hips. He was able to pitch around it and have a very successful career. Don't know if Tim can do the same going forward but he was able to get some success even with it of course. In fact he was pretty good for a few years there.

Passan would make a great agent for Lincecum. Actually feel a little bit excited about the possibility of the White Sox signing him, if you read that column from start to finish.

All the national writers would. They're being fed bulls*** by Lincecum's agent and running with it. Heyman's tweeting out hype daily.

Because the 5-10% chance that Lincecum can capture anything approximating his former glory for a stretch makes for a much more entertaining and optimistic story...I guess.

Did they write the same types of articles about Josh Johnson, Mark Mulder, Barry Zito, Johan Santana, etc.?

The Freak is such an iconic baseball figure in the imagination though, kind of like Mark The Bird Fidrych but for a much longer stretch of time...maybe also because of his size and crazy hair, lots of pitchers emulated him and hoped to follow in his path.

I was just thinking doesn't releasing Danks put the team in a more honest negotiating position. Here is the spot for you. Look at the standings. Don't look at our offer. Look at the standings and here is your spot in the location. Why are you looking at the cash? I told you don't look at the cash, look at the standings. . .

I doubt Lincecum will command a high price tag.

Unless the Giants want to bring him back and put him in the rotation again...they'd have to give up on Cain or Peavy, though.
