Bigsoxhurt35
We didn't end on the best of terms John but it was a nice ride early on. Thanks for your hard work man! Long live the blackout game Edited May 4, 2016 by SouthSideSale
greg775
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 4, 2016 -> 05:10 AM) He wouldn't even survive in the NL at this point sadly. His one hope is reinventing himself as a pitcher, possibly learning a knuckle ball. I don't know. Kinda wish he would have gone to Charlotte to work on things. Yeah, if he has no severe arm pain it's puzzling he wouldn't go to Charlotte. Even Danks must know this couldn't continue. In fact, the Sox front office may have saved him from a severe booing if Boston lit him up. Why not Charlotte Johnny? If he has a lot of arm pain/discomfort then I understand it. I think it's also harder going from charter flights and playing in the show to taking the bus in Charlotte and playing in podunk towns when you got 50M in the bank. He probably realizes that he is cooked as well- I don't think he's having serious pain. I was at the blackout game and remember him hitting 94-95 on the gun that chilly night- a different pitcher back then for sure. It was easily one of the most clutch performances in White Sox history- further accentuated by the fact that the Twins owned us the entire decade during the 2000's. During that decade you could easily argue there wasn't a critical game they lost to us with the exception of the blackout game- and that was because of Johnny Danks. I'm guessing that he knows he is done and would rather just end it now than humiliate himself even more. Thanks, John Danks for being professional throughout your Sox tenure. Best wishes to you. Dick Allen
I think he refused to go to Charlotte because he knows everyone else would get a shot before he would get another one no matter what he did. His best case scenario was a ton of injuries or poor performances or a September call up. Might as well go home, see if another team with perhaps a better opportunity gives you a call, and/or take some time off and prepare for a minor league contract and a spring training invite next year, and if that doesn't come, or you get one and fail, hit the golf course the rest of your life. Is he still only 29?
cabiness42
A bad team can pick him up and guarantee him a rotation spot for the rest of the season no matter how bad he is. Someone like Cincinnati or maybe even the Yankees.

Dick Allen
Johnny Danks was the winner in each of the last 2 postseason games the White Sox won. The Blackout Game and the 1 win they were able to get vs. Joe Maddon in the 2008 ALDS.

This is why I get mad when some people brutalized him in the game threads, etc., calling him a bum, mocking him, calling him names. If you have a history like he had, winning a game THAT important, you should owe him a minor debt of gratitude forever as a fan. You don't have to praise him all the time like me, but at least not crucify him with words, so to speak. To be nice, yes nice when speaking of him. Some of the things I read this season and last bout him were brutal. I won't ever rip Britt Burns, for instance, for what he did in that playoff game vs. Baltimore, the one Dybber blew. He pitched a shutout for 9 innings and Sox had LaMarr Hoyt ready to go in Game Five to win the series. They just couldn't get a run in Game Four.
