Jake
I like Robin. I also think that continuity, both in the clubhouse and front office, is underrated.
Buehrle>Wood
Let's give it more than a month. In fact let's give it a year and see if he makes the playoffs.
Middle Buffalo
He's not going anywhere, so there's no point in extending his contract. Let it expire and deal with him then. He's not a guy who other teams covet.
caulfield12
I could theoretically see the White Sox at least waiting until the All-Star Break or trade deadline...and THEN extending him, but I almost have the feeling with so many players with one or two year deals that Ventura being extended would take away from some of that "last chance" feeling for players like Navarro, Rollins, Jackson, Avila and Latos. Right now, there's a real sense of immediacy...which we haven't seen for a long time. There's also the concern that we see another 2012-like fade down the stretch. You don't want to have Ventura extended for 2-3 more years in that environment. And it's not like there are any other teams in baseball breathing down our necks to outbid the Sox or pry him away (Atlanta Braves, for example). maggsmaggs
This is just a terrible article. He has earned nothing this year. He still has yet to make the playoffs as the White Sox manager. And this season is 1/6th over.
GreenSox
What exactly has Ventura done to earn an extension? He ran a clubhouse that was nothing but a clown act for 3 years. Williams had to play the heavy in the Laroche situation. The clubhouse finally got serious, but not because of Ventura. And his decision making has never been what one would call state-of-the-art. Panerista
Imagine this team with a real manager. I'm sorry, it's still not Robin (loved him as a player, btw). He has improved, but he's still mediocre. Edited May 7, 2016 by AustinIllini

Panerista
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Probably undefeated. Sarcasm aside, this team will likely struggle and the pitching will likely regress to some extent, and at that point we will be wanting a real manager. We should be saying this team needs a new manager , a real manager, and Greensox should be praised for his baseball thinking. I would think for a guy who finds winning a WS the only redeeming quality of a baseball season, GreenSox and his anti good players, perpetual rebuilding is heaven posts would be the exact opposite of what would interest you. AustinIllini is trolling with the "Imagine how good the Sox would be with a REAL manager" comment. That comment is so not based in fact it's comical, thereby deserving of any comment anybody says. The way I defend Hawk is similar; all heart & gut but no real fact. My opinion is that Robin has the boys playing at their top level right now, his bullpen use has been fabulous, his rotation shuffling has been really smart, and the players seem to be responding well. Looks damn good so far. Not anfan of Maddon and his arrogance- Robin is a man's man.
flavum
I'm trying to enjoy this season for what it is so far, and hope it continues. We all know what his contract status is at the end of the season. Let's get there first before extending him or firing him.
iamshack
The fact is, Robin spit the bit in '12 when we were in contention. Let's see if he has learned and how he manages if we are involved in some important games in August/September/October before we make any decisions on whether he should be the one who manages this team moving forward. Actually, I find GreenSox quite interesting, thank you. I don't agree with everything he says, but i certainly appreciate his consistency and the passion he invokes around his central point of view about building from within. It's a fresh and unique mindset that ought to be celebrated, not berated and insulted. And while I'm here, fact check time: I have never once said that winning the WS is the only redeeming quality of a baseball season. Not once, not ever did I say such a thing. caulfield12
Is there anyone here actually in agreement with extending him now? My personal belief is that he needs to get to the playoffs first...and I wouldn't be too comfortable providing an extension during the regular season beyond the end of next year when many key players have expiring contracts like Cabrera, Frazier and Lawrie. Three year extension if he does successfully take this team to the playoffs. I do hope just contending but falling short doesn't earn him 2-3 more years automatically. That's what the good teams do, right? What I find interesting is 30 games into the season you think the White Sox haven't needed a "real" manager. What point of the season does that need kick in? And if Ventura had been replaced last year and a new guy was at the helm now, would you still not be giving the new guy any credit and not using the performance thus far against Robin? I think you would considering you used sitting out this season as proof Thins was a very flawed NBA coach. Nobody wanted him.
Bigsoxhurt35
This would be a very premature and silly thing to do. Let's see how the team continues to play, what we add and if we make the playoffs.

Robin has proven he can't deal with real, on the field adversity. Period. Thank god portions of this team have over performed. And with regards to Thibs, the whole Bulls org hated him because he was a nutcase. Looking forward to watching his big guns play 46 minutes against the 76ers in Minnesota. I think you're overestimating the impact the manager has. As long as he's not grossly misusing the bullpen (and aside from a couple headscratchers, Robin has been fine here), abusing the starters (might have rode them a bit too hard last year, but this year it's been fine), and utilizes the bench (I think Robin does a good job here), I don't think the manager really matters that much. Can't deal with real, on the field adversity? I'm not even sure what that means.
