I have a couple friends there. Plus, meeting kapkomet's goofy ass in person.

Ah. Have to say Arlington is low on my list of stadiums to see.

If you're looking for an authentic Texas experience I contend that you'll find it in greater purity and abundance in places like Amarillo, Lubbock and Wichita Falls than Dallas or Houston.

But hey that's just me. I think the only real interesting parts of Texas are the desolate western plains and the Mexico/Texas hybrid cities in the south.

Yeahhh...none of that is really true.

Your opinion maybe...but it is not a wasteland by any means.

Agreed. The pine forest of east Texas is beautiful. There are so many great beaches along the gulf coast, especially considering how much of it has no one on them. Houston has the Johnson Space Center. The Riverwalk in San Antonio is supposed to be the best in North America. Austin is supposed to be a great town.

Tons of National and State parks, museums, eclectic restaurants...

And the Riverwalk is awesome. We spend every Easter weekend in San Antonio.

Stats for Gonzalez against the Rangers aren't too bad.

287 BAA, 740 OPS. Moreland's the only active Ranger to take him deep, as Chirinos and Choo are out still.

Watch out for Mazara and Odor. They've been dangerous recently. Desmond's back up to a 700ish OPS after starting out in a miserable slump. Beltre just crushed the Tigers, while Fielder is the main slumping bat after having a bounceback year in 2015.

Yeah, I don't see this ending well for Gonzalez. Hope I'm wrong.

Dioner's bat has been money as of late, but my god is he awful at pitch framing. Nate Jones' walk yesterday pretty much confirmed that for me.

Avila's bat might be pretty weak, but at least he can frame a bit better.

If you are looking for a stereotype Texas experience the panhandle or stretches of west Texas may fill the bill. But a state 5 times larger than Illinois offers a much wider experience than those outdated cliches.

I'm not certain what nightlife Dallas is missing. From bars to concerts, teams playing every major and minor sport, museums, theater, what can't you do in Dallas that you can in other cities?

Its more what cant I do in other cities that I can do in Dallas, there is not a whole lot. Same applies to Houston. SA has a little more character. Austin is maybe my least favorite 1m+ city in the USA... god I hate Austin.

I've hung out some in the Texas triangle. Houston is OK, the area around Rice was were we hung out it was a good vibe. Austin is an awesome city but I could see living there full time to be a bit much with all the "local flavor". I enjoyed the beaches around Galvanston quite a bit. Padre National Seashore is a nice place.
