GreenSox
QUOTE (Deadpool @ May 20, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) All of a sudden, that Robin extension talk looks ridiculous. You can survive a bad week, but a bad fortnight is a lot of bad. It always looked ridiculous. But yes it's worse when the team slumps, because that's when he tightens up and plays not to lose, such as bunting his best hitter down when down 2 runs, etc.
Bigsoxhurt35
I knew this was crazy and premature. No thanks, I'll wait til after the season before extending him.
chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 23, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) It always looked ridiculous. But yes it's worse when the team slumps, because that's when he tightens up and plays not to lose, such as bunting his best hitter down when down 2 runs, etc. That was REALLY STUPID. Adam Eaton has a 40% OBP. He gets on base 40% of the f***ING TIME and we are bunting down two runs with nobody out? Hey, guess what, you play for ONE RUN YOU GET ONE RUN. I'm sick of RV. caulfield12
The ONLY way bunting Eaton there makes sense would be facing an incredibly difficult LH pitcher that Adam's struggled to even make contact with...even then, it's dubious. He has been our best overall hitter in the early going. You don't have him bunting when you should be playing for a big inning at home. Too conservative. And the bullpen wasn't even in close to "lockdown" mode so it's not like a 1 run lead even is close to automatic.
chitownsportsfan
Get rid of this f***ing bum. FFS. No more needs to be said we've all watched the same s*** for 4+ years, first it was "oh he's new". Then it was " get him good players". What will it be now that he has good players and the team underachieves? He f***ed up so bad today it's almost criminal. Bigsoxhurt35
If he gets an extension I'll be mind blown. He's a f***ing travesty to managing. This organization should be ashamed by him. He's f***ing terrible.
Green Line
Hmm lets see. His first year he managed the sox to an epic collapse in the final week of the season, and then followed that up with 3 consecutive non-competitive losing seasons. His teams have wilted in every pressure moment for his entire managerial career. I know he won't be fired though, absolutely no way. If they didn't fire him going into this year they're not gonna do it while the sox are in the hunt. My biggest fear is that we sneak into the playoffs and that gives managment all the excuse they need to extend him, because Im sure that's what Jerry would love to do. caulfield12
4-9 now since Terrible Tuesday. 2 1/2 3 4 Is the division lead. I suppose it could have been worse, and we do have Sale and Quintana going the next two games...but Central teams other than CLE are having a difficult time losing to the Twins, even on the road. You don't expect to win DHer's, and it seems like Ventura almost conceded this one by sending Erik Johnson out there to start the 7th. Anderson was dominant, though, once he got through the first 2-3 innings without major damage, he really settled down. White Sox can't score runs from 3rd with less than 2 outs to save their lives, the middle of the bullpen's still completely unreliable and Robin's still Robin. caulfield12
LOL @ Green Line. No, he'd rather bring in Thome or Rowand so we can go through another "good guy" with Sox roots, someone it would be extremely hard to hate on in the beginning. Just hope we see how this team would actually respond behind Renteria either this season or next. Realistically, it's probably 2017.
caulfield12
I'm just curious if there's anyone here who would go to Las Vegas/Macau/Atlantic City with the tonight's current odds for making the playoffs and place a $10,000 bet on the White Sox and Ventura? As to him being fired THIS season, it's going to take losing the lead (and by 3-5 games) to perhaps two of CLE/KC/DET and the season being on the brink/precipice...and Hahn, Cooper and the front office all believing more in Renteria to get the job done, not unlike what happened with Ned Yost in Milwaukee. Nope. I would bet big on KC winning 3 of 4 this weekend; to get the payoff bet KC to win all 4 and you'll make a hefty profit. Would not bet the Sox to win the playoffs. I wish we had Cleveland's manager the last few years. I wonder if he could get this team in the playoffs. Sale, Q and Rodon (most of the time), as well as Frazier, Abreu and Eaton provide some decent options for a manager to work with. I bet Francona would bemoan our situation and catcher and immediately start Saladino 80 percent of games at ss. This is Oklahoma City's year in basketball. Still not too late to bet the house; there will be some good profits to be made vs. G. State and Cleveland. Greg, we want to see a photo of your betting slip/receipt going "all in" on OKC to beat Golden State in Game 4. Then we'll be duly impressed. And the Raptors might not be done yet. They're starting to make some Clevelanders just a tad bit nervous. AND BACK TO VENTURA TALK LIVE...
caulfield12
6-17 stretch after they were up 6/7/8 over their three main ALCD competitors. 3-11 against KC/CLE/DET "Hard luck" Jose Quintana vs. Justin Verlander looming...and then an off-day. Trading for James Shields when they have about 5-6 more obvious needs (although Latos has been pretty bad since his first 4 amazing starts to begin the season.) Brilliant! Starting to think that everyone needs to be gone...and then an objective outsider brought in to realistically assess a possible fix for 2017 before they consider blowing it up completely. You just added Shields' contract, so trading your core doesn't make much sense, especially when Abreu is worth about as much as a ticket to watch the US Men's Soccer Team these days. Tigers only 1 1/2 GB from knocking the White Sox back into 4th place. 1) Albers is cooked...so need to move Putnam to that role or add another reliever or pray Petricka comes back to form. 2) Sands/Shuck don't belong on an MLB roster. 3) Rollins and Avila also don't belong on the roster anymore 4) We only have three reliable relievers at the moment. 5) We have zero offense against RHP other than Eaton/Frazier/Cabrera. 6) Continued erosion of defense and more and more misplays recently...can't do much with RISP, every aspect of the ballclub is falling apart. Sale has lost his best fastball, Q's devolving into his hard luck/zero run support guy (joining Miguel Gonzalez), and Rodon can't take the next step forward, looking more like a 4 than a 2 at the moment. 7) Don Cooper looks like he's wearing pajamas rather than a big league uniform, and the team (other than Coats) is about as lethargic as a three-toed tree sloth or bear coming out of hibernation. Might need fresh blood across the coaching staff...things have just gotten stale. Pitch calling hasn't been good, are there any positives right now other than Eaton and Frazier? OR, Hahn just managed a smoke and mirrors start (fueled largely by wins over MN, OAK, Toronto and Texas) that created the illusion of a competitive team...? Smoke and mirrors is appearing to be more accurate. Last year they decided to stand pat at the deadline due to that random 7 game winning streak in July. Shortly after that-- COLLAPSE. This team is dead. They have collapsed and there is no end of this downward spiral in sight.
harkness99
Hard for me to blame Ventura for despicable performance of this team lately... But over 4 years Ventura has proven that he can't be division opponents. No reason for him to be still leading this team... none.
caulfield12
Maybe Shields coming back and beating the Royals will jump start this team...maybe! Of course, if they crush him, it could have the effect of further exacerbating the malaise and bad play.
