zach23
Kip always pitched great when there was no pressure. I hated Toad Ritchie, but I am betting Kip would have crapped his pants during this pennant race just like he did in 2000.

Ritchie took less money to go to Milwaukee... Some competitior he was.

God forbid we consider that a young pitcher could mature and end up successful despite early struggles. Hell, this board would have chewed up and spit out Sandy Koufax and demanded he be traded in his early years. Sometimes, whether you like it or not, it takes patience with young guys. Hell, this board would have chewed up and spit out Sandy Koufax and demanded he be traded in his early years. Sometimes, whether you like it or not, it takes patience with young guys. Its true. I'd say a lot of people here are very impatient on things like that. The thing is, when you here so much hype and see guys like Webb and Dontrell just going right out and suceeding you think well why can't our super hyped prospect do it. The truth is most prospects definately take some time. Look at Garland, but I'd say the wait was more then worth it. You could say the same for Carlos who has turned out to be the teams MVP, IMO. Then for every 10 or 15 guys like Garland (Great prospects that take time) you get a guy like Buehrle, Zito, Webb, Mulder, Dontrell that just come right out of the shoot and kick butt. Pujols included. Some players are just more ready when they reach the majors then others. A guy like jeremy Reed is someone that could make a quick impact soley because he understands so much of the game and can do the other things that help make him notice. Plus having a good eye is huge for immediate sucess at the major league level. Bottom line, if a guy has talent, give him a few years to grow. You definately wnat to see improvement, but put him in a position where the team doesn't need him to perform like a world beater, but instead to play solid in a lot of areas and if he can't develop as a good hitter yet, then be patient and stick with him knowing that he helps you in other areas (Ala Crede and Olivo; Crede is definately becoming a better player and it wouldn't be a shock if he makes the all star game next year).
