Umpiring has been really bad league wide, but this year it feels personal against the Sox. I don't remember the last time the Sox won a challenge, seems like every questioned challenge against the Sox they have lost, and have had a couple incidents like last night really hurt the outcome of the game.

The home plate upping is far and away the worst I've ever seen. I don't know what has happened there. Did they tell the ups to call a different style or have different emphasis? I cannot explain it. Every game seemingly has resulted in a terrible home plate ump.

And to be fair it seems like that is league wide. Not just for the Sox.

Okay there was a lot of back and forth about the rule in the game thread.

However the umpires not responsible for Albers completely losing it 3 games in a row.

I'm pretty sure it was an 0-2 pitch Gattis hit. Albers seemed spotless early, now it seems he just can't get over the hump the last couple outings. He seems to be one pitch from getting out of it and can't deliver. Probably the reason he was relegated to the 11th inning yesterday.

I was by the Sox on deck circle and Robin did ask if he would ask for help. The umpire refused.

my comment wasnt meant to pin it on Robin, it was obvious the home ump made up his mind.

I wasn't suggesting it was. Just stating the umpire refused to discuss it with anyone which to me is ridiculous, even though the non call wouldn't have changed.

What I don't understand about umpires is when a call is made and a manager argues to have it discussed, then they discuss it and change the call, wouldn't that be the exact opposite of "trying to get it right/" If the manager never argued, the umpire(s) who saw the call differently enough to get it changed just bite their tongue. I would like one time for umpires to have a discussion at the request of another umpire, not the manager.

Any time you ask for your pitchers to get your four outs in an inning, you are just begging for trouble. The Sox had it happen 3 times yesterday, including the blown call. The had runs scored against them twice because of it.

Sure, the Sox absolutely should have put that game away before the 11th inning, and Albers should make a better pitch on 0-2.

I just want the umpires to do their jobs.

It wasnt an awful pitch but it was a horrible call. You could tell he was adjusting to that down and in 2 seamer with his practice swing. Going back down there was moronic.

Albers is getting in trouble because every pitch is on the same plane. Needs to do a better job of changing the eye level of the hitter

Agreed. You just knew he was going back down there and so did the hitter. He needs to elevate those

Awful call, but the sox had so many opportunities they missed that they need to capitalize on.

Bottom line this team keeps battling but the bullpen has really let them down as has the defense more recently and just two out runs. Got to get the positive mojo rolling again. No better day than now to start a nice winning streak!!!

I don't even know what this means.

That was phrased wrong. Everything needs to go right for this team to make the playoffs. Bad calls (luck) working against then may be the grain of sand that tilts the scale to losing.

How come other teams replay every f***ing thing imaginable and get every review they ask for and we can't do s***?

This may have already been answered but it was not a reviewable call. Ventura made his case and the ump didn't change his mind. The ump blew it for sure. Albers then made a two strike pitch mistake and that was it. Our bullpen has been bad the last few games and only Sale has saved us. But, Robertson looked good. Albers has blown like three in a row now. We were in all those games though and I believe things will straighten out.

Duke blew a game too. You could say Putnam did last night.

It's time to quit using him so much. He's pitched himself out of that role for now. Gulp, use the other guys more.

He wouldn't have been asking for a review, but for the umpires to actually talk about it among themselves. That way if the base umpires saw something that they thought was interference he could tell the home ump, and then he call interference, and call the base runner out as well.
