Orlando question...

For those that follow the minor leagues why did the Sox let this Orlando kid go. Looks like at worst he'd be a solid bench player and a good defender.

Was he that good in the minors? Or just another Sox minor league stiff that suddenly became good as soon as he got out of the organization.

He was 22 when we traded him and he basically is a 4th outfielder now. We traded him for bullpen help (which backfired) during the 2008 divisional race when he had little minor league experience. I don't think it's anything we should beat ourselves up over

We traded him after he had one full year of A ball and a half a year of high A ball. He was prone to strike out and his calling card was speed.

Horacio Ramirez was who we got in return... Who gave us an almost 7 ERA in 17 games.

This story has all the answers you're looking for...maybe not the droid, though.

I just remember Silverio, Orlando and Anderson Gomes. Was that the extent of it?

Later on, we'd get the forgettable Andre Rienzo as well out of Brazil.
