White Sox draft picture getting clearer - reports on Blake Rutherford

I really wish I could build up some interest for the draft but baseball is the worst for prospects making it. Every other sport draft picks, especially high first rounds picks, show up that season. Baseball, it takes forever and they have to climb up four levels.

Toolsy outfielders are to KW what rakes are to Sideshow Bob. Can't avoid them, can't stop getting smacked in the face with 'em.

With their last 16 1st round picks (incl. supplemental) the White Sox have taken 3 outfielders.

Using this logic we should have never drafted Sale.

Wrong. Sale was sent to Wisconsin for a season to avoid the 'florida syndrome". In fact his present day wind-up was developed in the cheese state.

Yep, Keenyn Walker, Jared Mitchell and Brian Anderson.

Not to mention Trayce Thompson.

And signing Dayan Viciedo.

Though Walker should have an asterick next to his name. He was taking with the #47 pick. Second round pick Spencer Adams was taken with a lower overall pick than Walker was.

A higher pick but yes your point is correct.

Adams was #44 overall, Walker #47.

Right. We are saying the same thing. Your original post said Adams was taken with a lower pick. He was taken with a higher pick technically. I'm just anal and nitpicked your post.

I got what you are saying now. I was using overall going by the grand total (44th player vs 47th), not by rounds.

Just once, just one freaking time would I like the Sox to spend a premium draft pick on a refined college hitter with an advanced hitting approach. I don't care what position--I've been beating the Collins drum hard the last month but he's not the only one--Nick Senzel would fit the bill for instance.

But no, KW will keep trying to achieve some kind of vicarious playing career success through outfielders who look like they should be all-stars but in actuality don't have the plate discipline or eye to hit major league pitching. I have no idea if Rutherford falls into that category--he could be the 2nd coming of Ted Williams for all I know--but the lack of importance the Sox seem to place on plate discipline (which really boils down to having the physical ability to recognize pitch type, speed and location combined with walking up to the plate with, you know, an actual plan in mind) is stunning. Especially when that describes exactly Robin, Buddy Bell and Frank, the best hitter the organization ever produced-all key figures within the organization.

If the Sox pick Collins, Senzel etc. I will gladly eat this post.

These posts kill me. For years, KW was accused of taking the low ceiling high floor guys like Braodway and Poreda. The sox switch philosophy to take higher risks and now that is his problem.

Keenyn Walker, Jared Mitchell, Courtney Hawkins

Trayce was a second round pick. Anderson would make it 4 of last 17 picks.

Ooops, funny, because I just looked up Hawkins to see if his OPS was anywhere near 800 after a 3 double game. Still at 737. But he's obviously missed a lot of at-bats already this season, and those numbers can change quickly.

Right now, it's hard to count on Hawkins to make it, but he could always just start clicking like Thompson did after struggling for quite awhile. Not counting on it though.

Fwiw, there was one point where we acquired Mike Jacobs (think that's his name) from BOS and we had ALL prospects with multi-sports backgrounds playing for the same team. But he didn't last long with the White Sox.

Brandon Jacobs, he was bad. I think we unloaded him to San Diego.
