lostfan
The difference with football is that when you watch it on TV, the broadcast is constantly showing you something. There's a play, then they show you the replay with an explanation of what happened, and then they show a shot of the crowd or the players on the sidelines while the commentators discuss a topic or a stat they put up on the screen. Baseball on the other hand has the center field camera on the pitcher's back and the batter for at least half the broadcast so people get the impression that there is less happening. When you go to live football games you really notice - there is a lot of standing around. Soccer and hockey are almost nonstop action, when they have breaks in action it's only for a few seconds. bmags
I mean, the reality is the "action" of pitcher throwing to catcher is also a part of what critics say with "nothing is happening.

Panerista
QUOTE (Tex @ May 24, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) It makes the argument that baseball is too slow seem weak and unnecessary. Innings are not a finite length and the pace is still not fast enough. The NFL commercials are ridiculous, but once the clock runs, it runs. NFL games are super short. This is definitely a huge part of it.
Harry Chappas
Soccer does not seem right. That is 90 minuets and the stoppage for fouls and injury is not 50% of the time.
Panerista
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 24, 2016 -> 04:20 PM) Soccer does not seem right. That is 90 minuets and the stoppage for fouls and injury is not 50% of the time. Every time the keeper has the ball, play stops. Every time the ball goes out of bounds, play stops (corners and goal kicks even longer). There's a ton of stopping in soccer and even more inaction.
