the pull pen was smoke and mirrors

Yeah, they had guys like Zumaya and Rodney, but they rarely all functioned together as a unit...that was Detroit's biggest Achilles' heel over the last decade.

Greg Holland didn't have dominant stuff, as well. You don't have to throw the ball through to be effective. Obviously, Herrera throws hard, but guys like Hochevar and Soria don't throw any harder than Albers/Jones/Kahnle/Petricka.

This pen is not May bad, but is also not April good. So somewhere right in between.

The bullpen blows. I thought Nate had figured something out. I thought Robertson truly was elite. He's OK on most occasions but obviously not a big-game pitcher (see the Royals choke job). The pen is sub-par again. I'd give it a C- to D.

I didn't get very far into this post. I stopped at Nate Jones being a one-pitch pitcher.

Nate Jones has an elite slider, when it's on. Elite.

Really? How many games have you watched him pitch this year where is slider was wiping people out?

It has hardly happened... he didn't even throw it against KC.

Weird to have an Elite pitch that you won't throw.

The whole team is right around the C- or D grade. April is long gone and the shortcomings of this team have been exposed big time. They will most likely finish the year around 75 wins. C's may get degrees but they don't lead to Division championships.

I'd say 90 or more losses. Total tank job. We have four months left for gosh sakes. Think of how many losses are coming??

We're almost at the 1/3 mark. It just depends on whether they become buyers or sellers over the next 8 weeks. 75-82 wins...somewhere in there. It really doesn't matter though. No playoffs is no playoffs. Just going over .500 when you're trying to make the playoffs is meaningless.
