I know you were sarcastic, but I don't think there are any leaders in baseball anymore. Paulie never said anything when the Sox were in the midst of buffoon-like play. Rollins and all the anti-LaRoche guys haven't done squat to get the team back on the track. It's all bulls***.

That said ... some starting pitchers in baseball do appear to be fierce bulldogs like Sale and Verlander. I think except for some pitchers who refuse to come out of games, it's all crap. Rollins is a joke. Lawrie? Frazier? None of these guys want to step on any toes, which is fine, but no longer call guys "leaders." Ballplayers just take care of themselves.

Very very tiring. Like the Trib writer wrote, we're not hearing about Lawrie's mouthpiece anymore. Rollins is just collecting a paycheck and settling in with this pathetic team.

The odds of him even making the major leagues are about 50/50 at best.

 

 

All we needed was Desmond for SS/OF and/or another bat (DH/OF, preferably LH).

Hahn is the one who put himself in that situation of having to defend a trade that worked out poorly by holding onto the draft pick that's probably going to be meaningless while the ship is sinking right now as we speak.

 

KW at least knew that when you have limited assets or resources available, you put all your chips in with the product on the field rather than investing in the future because 90% of those investments don't pan out (unless you're cash rich and you can throw tons of money at the problem like the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers, Giants, etc.)

 

If we miss the playoffs every season until this draft pick makes the majors (which is 50/50 in the first place, let alone being an impact player), then, unless he's Mike Trout Jr., it won't really matter. Does Hahn think he'll still have a job in 2020 or 2021 at this rate? Guess so.

Btw, Ian Desmond has now proven himself capable of playing LF and now CF this season.

 

800+ OPS as well.

 

But we couldn't give up that draft pick.

 

Seems like the type of player who could help at all the places where we had the biggest issues entering the season...SS, CF (outfielder, in general), brings more speed/athleticism, could also DH and PR.

 

Rangers bombing the hell out of the Indians, 9-0 and still only in the 4th.

 

 

Yay, we're only 1/2 game behind the Indians still. Cause for a $8 MOET champagne celebration if I've ever heard one. Tomlin will take his first loss of the season. Of course, we could barely touch him when he pitched against the Sox.

When we're winning the media loves talking about the role of leadership from veterans. Such a fluff piece.

 

This team has problems all over. I'm back to how I've watched the Sox over the past 3-5 years ... Just waiting for the loss. Waiting for the infield pop up or strikeouts with RISP.

 

As bad as this stretch is however, it won't be like this all year. All the wins early in the season mean just as much as the losses now - we sit at .500'ish.

 

Really now though it's the Indians we have to worry aobut. That team is very talented.

And what are Williams' results with chips all in? 2 playoffs in 16 seasons. And in neither of those 2 did he go "all in" in July. The Griffey trade was in 08 I think, but that was for scraps. In 05 the only move he made was for a utility player.

Yes 90% of prospects flame out....of course Williams has a nice percentage of his veterans flaming out. He likes players who are on the downside of their peak, for some reason.
