southsider2k5 Posted June 2, 2016 Share Posted June 2, 2016 QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) that's certainly higher than I would have guessed. 2015- 12 2014- 18 2013- 11 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Buehrle>Wood Posted June 2, 2016 Author Share Posted June 2, 2016 QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) that's certainly higher than I would have guessed. Melky was hitting 3 fwiw. It's possible it's happened in a standard way, but also perhaps with an injured player ending up there or somehow a pitcher. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

For #3 hitters, they have attempted a sac bunt 7 times this year across MLB. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
harkness99 Posted June 2, 2016 Share Posted June 2, 2016 It still pretty rare.... and every situation is different of course. But any problems I have with Ventura... this particular one isn't high on my list. I didn't really agree with it and it failed to work. But yeah not high on my list. Hatchetman Posted June 3, 2016 Share Posted June 3, 2016 now that I'm at work I have time to screw around with this. this year 126 times have there been men on 1st and 2nd no out #3 hitter up, game within one run. there has been one bunt attempt. LittleHurt05 Posted June 3, 2016 Share Posted June 3, 2016 QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) For #3 hitters, they have attempted a sac bunt 7 times this year across MLB. Do they have a list of when these bunts happened? I'd be curious to see the situations and players involved. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Dick Allen Posted June 3, 2016 Share Posted June 3, 2016 Terry Francona had Jason Kipnis and his over .800 OPS bunt last night. Had him bunt several times last season as well. Is he an idiot? Joe Girardi is known as a good manager. In a 5-4 game in the 9th with a runner on 3rd, he chose to pitch to Miguel Cabrera last night. Chicago White Sox Posted June 3, 2016 Share Posted June 3, 2016 QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 3, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Terry Francona had Jason Kipnis and his over .800 OPS bunt last night. Had him bunt several times last season as well. Is he an idiot? He had Kipnis bunt in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game with a runner on second and no outs. Of course you bunt there because all you need is one run to win the game. Having Melky bunt in the 7th inning with the score even directly after a three day period in which our bullpen gave up multiple late inning runs is a completely different situation and you know it. Bunting isn't always bad, but it's rare that you're better off giving away an out than going for the big inning. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
