BigHurt3515
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) For those who have been paying attention, this has already been happening. Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 1m1 minute ago Ventura wouldn't specify, but he cited Saladino's range while hinting his time could increase at SS. Rollins tomorrow, tho. Ventura is an idiot. Why start Rollins against RHP? Of course he starts Saladino against a LHP and Rollins against both RHP in this series.
Buehrle>Wood
Oh. My. God. Ventura has to be trying to get himself fired at this point. This is beyond rationalization at this point.
BaconOnAStick
Yea I dont know what he's doing. If he wants to quit why not just quit? It's not like he'd be walking out on a bunch of money his contract is up at the end of the season.

caulfield12
http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_...8/jimmy-rollins Rollins is just 1/8 career-wise against deGrom, a walk and two K's. That's definitely not a compelling reason for him to be out there tomorrow. It's not like Saladino's the catcher and needs rest in a getaway afternoon day game to finish the series. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/profile...=Tyler-Saladino Tyler has played 69 career games at 2B, 437 at SS, 65 at 3B, 12 at 1B and 8 in LF. GreenSox
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2016 -> 09:16 PM) How do you not at least have Saladino playing 2B tmrw? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Lawrie has done nothing to deserve getting benched. And Rollins has done nothing to suggest he should start. Maybe Rollins will start moping if he doesn't play...but if he mopes, he goes. Right now, he's still useful as a bat against lefties.
caulfield12
I'm not saying I'm in favor of benching Lawrie, he can actually dial it up and hit really good FB's unlike some of our other bottom of the order hitters. If Ventura's made up his mind before tonight's game that Rollins will play and he already announced it publicly, don't see him going back on that. Could have just as easily said you DH Frazier and play Saladino at 3B but we're in an NL park and definitely need the threat of Todd's power bat in the middle of the line-up. Same thing with sitting Frazier, not when he's leading MLB in homers and Abreu's continuing his disappearing power act. You could also play Tyler in LF, move Eaton to CF (or use Shuck there) and Melky back in RF. Edited June 1, 2016 by caulfield12

Or, instead of all of these contrivances, just play Saladino at Short. not only should Saladino play, Rollins should NOT play, considering that matchup. I don't get the pressing need to play Rollins. Jake
He's started 8 out of the last 12 games and at the beginning of that stretch, he was still being outhit by Rollins. Robin isn't going to just quit Rollins cold turkey, it's going to be a continuation of the gradual transition that we've seen so far. It's a matter of fairness to the players involved. And for the love of god, let's not lose our minds over matchups. Rollins has some noticeable R/L splits this year—but not over his career—but he's not the only player involved. There may be a goal here of protecting Saladino against what they expect are tough matchups for him. And, of course, he played Saladino today against a lefty and that seemed to work out pretty well. Let's not sweat the small stuff. Rollins is on track to slowly lose his share of the starts, but he won't lose them all right away. And the starts he gets aren't necessarily going to be tailored to his perceived strengths, but may have more to do with the schedule and what matchups they think work best and worst for Saladino Edited June 1, 2016 by Jake

It's not fair to start the guy who is better at defense, better at hitting RHP, and played a hell of a game the night before? I guess we have to make those vets happy and be "fair" to him because we signed him to be the starting SS and man it wouldn't be fair to sit him in favor of the guy who is better. This isn't a game of hopscotch at recess, this is Major League Baseball where when you suck and someone is playing better then you, you lose your job. And the manager needs to go with that stats and the hot hand so the team can have a better chance to when the game. We have been playing the fairness cards way too long with vets on our teams and it is about time that ends. There is absolutely no reason Rollins should be starting tomorrow against a RHP. caulfield12
There's one positive for the Mets. They had the opportunity to lustily boo Chase Utley over the weekend when the Dodgers were in town, now they can boo and heckle another former Phillie all game long in Jimmy Rollins.
