If we fall out of contention in the next two months, it's a legit question. We're not out of contention.

 

It would take a big haul though, since I assume we plan to contend next year as well.

The team is not terrible. They had a bad couple weeks, it happens. Out of the 7 game losing streak, 5 were by one or two runs. As it is they are on pace to win 86 games which should have them right in the hunt.

 

Also you are the first person to mention trolling in this thread.

People ask that question all the time, it isn't accusing someone of trolling. It is saying "I'm sick of listening to this guy anymore someone show me how to stop"

Eh no it's not necessarily. There are posters on here whose posts I ignore but it's not because I think they're trolling it's just that I think they're annoying.

With the scouting and developing as is I doubt this organization has the ability to rebuild.

I think that if the Sox are not in playoff contention at the trade deadline (which I still think they will be because they aren't as bad as they have been lately), they should do a tear down. I hate the thought because I love our core of good players (Sale, Abreu, Q, Frazier, Rodon). But this "rebuild on the fly experiment" for the last 5 years will have failed miserably. We are either unwilling or do not have enough money to sign a top free agent. Therefore, we sign and/or trade for middle of the road (and in some cases sub-par) free agents to fill gaps that we can't otherwise fill with our minor league system. This type of team constructing gets us exactly where we have been the last 5 years, right around .500. (It's infuriating, but maybe management allows it b/c the fans stay somewhat interested.) But from a winning perspective, we're never going to be a perennial winner with this type of formula. To be a success, you either sign big FAs, or build talent from within, (or do a little of both). But none of this is what the Sox do. Therefore, if we're out of contention, I would suggest a total tear down and try building up talent from within and sucking for a few years a la the Cubs. Otherwise, next year, we'll just see more of the same.

For every successful rebuild there's one that completely fails. There's a good chance we end up like the Twins, throwing away several seasons on a rebuild and then still being bad.

Okay, I don't even know what you were talking about since you referenced 2008 which was a playoff season and then didn't clarify which season you were actually referring to..."This team would need a 2008 style meltdown season (not bad month) to get to the point where they think about it."

 

And then I followed up by pointing out ONE season when the White Sox were patient and didn't blow things up. Which is actually positive/encouraging in the same way Greg Hibbard was attempting to be with his thread.
