Y2Jimmy0
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016060..._medium=twitter He's spot on. The White Sox could go out and add Jay Bruce or a comparable LH stick. They could call up Tim Anderson and he could be as advertised. They could trade for Will Smith or another reliever to lock down the bullpen. They could replace Robin Ventura with Rick Renteria. But the problem is that if Jose Abreu continues to be one of the worst players on the team and in the league, this team isn't going anywhere. They have issues. It's a frustrating team for sure. Their main issue though is that Jose Abreu needs to be Jose Abreu. The dude has been terrible and it just can't continue.
Chicago White Sox
100% agree that he's the main problem and this team isn't going anywhere without him being close to the hitter was saw over the past couple years. However, he's not the only problem and it's not like addressing our flaws is mutually exclusive. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be addressing all issues as they present themselves. Got a s***ty manager? Fire Robin and give Renteria a shot. Have multiple holes in the lineup? Aggressively explore external options while giving a lesser internal option a look in the interim. Have a s***ty bench? Demote Sands and call up anybody that has an actual skill that provides tangible value. Getting s*** production from the back-end of your rotation? Well here's one they one they were proactive about and actually addressed. Point is Abreu's production will make or break our season, but at the same time, all the other issues combined may have a similar or even greater impact. Our team can't afford to wait until Abreu figures it out to start addressing holes. By then we may well be out of the race. And if Abreu doesn't rebound at some point, well then we have a lot bigger problems on our hands. pettie4sox
The Sox have been winning and I use this term very loosely while Abreu has been utter trash. If he was himself, my god this team would be cruising right now.
soxfan49
What if this is Abreu being Abreu? He's been pretty bad since July/August last year, so perhaps the league has figured him out and this is the player that he will forever be.
Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) What if this is Abreu being Abreu? He's been pretty bad since July/August last year, so perhaps the league has figured him out and this is the player that he will forever be. Then we have no choice but to consider rebuilding. We don't have any potential middle-of-the-order hitters in our system outside of a couple guys in A/rookie ball. And free agency looks ugly the next two years. We better hope he rebounds, because there is really no way of replacing him and adding the other impact bat we're currently lacking.
harkness99
well... Abreu has not been himself at all. This is ONE of the reasons we are one of the worst teams in the majors as of late. However there are many other issues. Abreu didn't lose the KC series...

We could get several AMAZING packages of prospects and young, established players for Sale, Quintana and Eaton.

Y2Jimmy0
The offseason was fine. The additions were solid. If Abreu were playing like his usual self, this team would be in first place. It's that simple.

ChiSox1917
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) What if this is Abreu being Abreu? He's been pretty bad since July/August last year, so perhaps the league has figured him out and this is the player that he will forever be. Then you fire your hitting coach and get someone who can correct his holes. He has too much natural talent to say that this is what he'll be forever. CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (harkness @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 08:07 AM) well... Abreu has not been himself at all. This is ONE of the reasons we are one of the worst teams in the majors as of late. However there are many other issues. Abreu didn't lose the KC series... Against KC in the last series we were swept 1 for 12 in the middle of the order in 3 games we lost by a total of 4 runs. Also missed the ground ball in the big come from behind walkoff win. No RBI's no extra base hits. He sure as hell didn't help .

I remember something in the off season about Jose working out or getting in shape or something that wasn't in his normal off season program. I said something like Jose Abreu shouldn't change anything. There's nothing wrong with his 1st 2 years. I sure hope he hasn't worked too hard in the off season or become more muscular and lost his flexibility. I think he will come around but it needs to be very soon. If the last 3 games are any indication it may have started already.
