Look at some of the recent winners around baseball (even tonight).

Junior Guerra was in our system and let go. Anyone could have had Dustin McGowan. Feldman with the Astros.

Yovanni Gallardo. Lincecum. Edinson Volquez. Colby Lewis.

The only pitcher that might have been a WORSE decision than Shields was arguably Ubaldo Jimenez. Even the O's announcers really detest him.

I love it when people are posting so much that they forget what thread they are in.

Why is the Obama admn censoring out portions of the Orlando shooter's 911 calls?

It's pretty routine. Killer tells us he does it for Allah, and we say 'no you didn't'. it's like a bad Monty Python skit. "I am a terrorist!". "No you aren't." "What? of course i am!" "Nope, you are just a crazy lone wolf" "But I tell you I AM a terrorist. I killed people in the name of Allah and pledge allegience to ISIS!" "Doesn't count".

I could think of a couple things. One being to reveal some of the protocol that law enforcement uses in these situations. Another maybe evidence against someone else that they do not want the person to know before a case can be made against them.

That wouldn't explain changing Allah to God.

Why wouldn't you translate everything? Either way they would be open to criticism.

Everyone is shocked that the Senate voted down another gun control bill this week, so soon after this shooting. If very little changed after Sandy Hook, I can't imagine a worse scenario than that to make those politicians change their minds.

I thought in translations, you didn't change proper names?

It's the Arabic word for God, not a name. When you read a translation of Spanish, you don't leave God as Dios.

Eta you'd also translate some proper nouns eg Estados Unidos or italia or Deutschland, city names typically change eg Turin versus turino.

When you change it from Allah to God you change the power behind the words. if you read that a gunman shot several people shouting 'God is great!" you think White Christian. You hear gunman shot several people shouting 'Allah is great! you picture a Muslim. Why would you want to change that perception?

You know why. Allah forbid you unfairly portray Muslims in the US.

I think that's a weird argument in this case given everything that was already public, including his stated support of various (competing) Islamic groups.

But at the same time I don't understand why they redacted some of the transcripts in the first place again given what was already public.

Right, then why censor the transcript in any way? Why isn't it verbatim?

Even in speaking in English, American Muslims don't refer to "God". They refer to Allah. Would it be different if this was a Jewish shooter, and instead referred to Yahweh?

I was thinking that if we can't look at laws too soon after a mass shooting, when will we? It seems like we've had one every few months for the past few years.

I would think either because charges are pending against other individuals or there was some protocol they do not wish to reveal. The first seems possible the second may be more theoretical.

Also could it be insensitive to one of the victims?

The first is unlikely since someone would have said something by now about another suspect.

The second is also unlikely since police procedure is basically public knowledge at this point. Every cable network has some police procedure expert on the payroll. And these were 911 calls anyway. Not sure they included any of the negotiations, but maybe they do.

Insensitivity seems like a stretch.

I think we all know this was to soften the "another Islamic terrorist" response.

I thought they were still investigating his wife and was't there some talk that someone on the inside was helping him?

Serious question: If on a hot Friday or Saturday night I decided to walk the streets of Rosemont from 10 pm until 5 am. what are the odds I would be shot and killed? Probably 90 percent? The murders in Chicago must stop.

My bad ... I meant ROSELAND. Sorry.
