greg775
Guys it's become apparent we have a contending ballclub cept for one little thing, problems with every other team in the Central not named Minnesota. Sox deserve credit for their overall body of work outside of games against KC, Cleveland and Detroit. Problem is we gotta play them all a buttload of times the rest of the way meaning we're going nowhere. Nice win today.
caulfield12
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) Tex and Beltran coming off the books. Royals below .500 and 8 games back after 98 games in 2014. Toronto below .500 and 8 games back after 101 games last season. Determining how it all goes down on July 3rd is foolish. That's fine if the White Sox are adding Tulo (the good version) and David Price. That cleaned out their system to the point where a trade like that (just one of them) is going to much harder to pull off this time around, same with the Royals. The 2014 Royals were sparked, according to most, by a speech from veteran acquisition Raul Ibanez and the addition of James Shields. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...house/15314435/ Who on the White Sox is going to take a similar leadership role? Justin Morneau? Shields again? Anderson? Edited July 4, 2016 by caulfield12

caulfield12
Indians clinch the season series over the Tigers with 9 games still remaining this season. 10-0 on the year. Game ended on a replay challenge...overturned a safe call on a DP ball that would have allowed future HOF 2B Ian Kinsler a chance to tie it with a homer off Allen. A bit of a make-up call after Saturday when the Indians' Naquin thought he had cut down a runner at the plate to preserve a 6-6 tie against the Blue Jays. Sellout crowd. he gone.
I think we can realistically take some of these teams out of the hunt. IMO it comes down to the: Orioles, BoSox, Jays, Astros Second Tier: ChiSox, Tigers, Royals, Mariners Now obviously someone is going to win the east, but I'd think two of the other 3, barring injury probably have the leg up. BoSox, Astros, and the Jays to an extent all have the farm systems to make the trades to acquire the pieces they need to shore up their teams. Mariners have hit a dry spell due to pitching injuries. Royals injuries too. Here is an interesting fact.. tigers are 44-29 against any team not named the Indians -- which is exactly why the Sox have to play for the WC, there is no chance the Indians don't win the division. Especially with Brantley lurking... I'll stand by this prediction - I am saying Rangers win the West (best record too), Blue Jays the East, Indians the Central WC game is BoSox at Astros. I'd love to sneak the Sox in there, but it's not happening. I do think we have a decent shot at second place in the division FWIW.
caulfield12
Jays have been averaging 7+ runs per game since June 11 WITHOUT Jose Bautista... One more starting pitcher (again, see David Price 2015), they become pretty scary. And Michael Saunders has added a new element to that attack. That said, they don't have nearly the bullets they did last year in their minor league system. 1. TOR +9 2. BOS +8 3. HOU +7 1/2 GB 4. DET +5 1 1/2 GB 5. CHW +3 2 1/2 GB 6. KCR +2 3 GB 7. SEA +1 3 1/2 GB 8. NYY -2 5 GB Toronto leading KC 2-1, Houston beating the M's 4-0 already (again). flavum
The Sox are the middle team in the 15 team league. Need to go 27-17 the next 44 to only have to go 17-16 the final 33, and finish 88-74. Edited July 7, 2016 by flavum
caulfield12
Not sure being "right in the middle" is where we aspired to be pre 2013, after 3 1/2 years of rebuiding/retooling...but it's SOMEWHERE. Some really nervous moments calling that game for HOU when they were up 5-0 early. Tied 7-7 Valbuena absolutely crushed this Edwin Diaz dude that has been K'ing nearly everyone (29 k's in 15+ IP)...then the M's manage to pull within 9-8 on a Cano oppo double off the scoreboard....2nd and 3rd, 1 out...Cruz K's against Gregerson, intentionally walk, then a K against their Korean in Lee to end the game on a checked swing. Exciting game...playoff atmosphere, just like the TOR/KC series that the Blue Jays absolutely dominated. TOR and HOU put KC and SEA behind us, the problem is those two teams both simultaneously gained against the Sox as well in the WC race. In other news, it actually rained INSIDE of SkyDome...think about that one for a moment or two. Edited July 7, 2016 by caulfield12
caulfield12
1. TOR +10 2. BOS +8 3. HOU +6 1 GB 4. DET +4 2 GB 5. CHW/KCR +3 2 1/2 GB 7. SEA E 4 GB 8. NYY -1 4 1/2 GB Detroit and Toronto in a barnburner. Toronto just went ahead 5-4 (Tulo two out, two run single) on Tigers' pen. Verlander continues to pitch pretty well (velocity up to 97). CLE loses on an overturned out call at 1st when they had a good chance to tie against Chapman. Rich Hill, with lots of scouts looking on, has the A's ahead of the Astros late. 6 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB's, 10 K's KC, now 28-11 at home and 16-30 on the road. Talk about a tale of two teams.
