caulfield12
Everyone can relax at least until Thursday afternoon. Jones saved the game on a ball that would have given Boston a 3-1 lead, Avila saved the game twice defensively, Duke literally saved the game and then Robertson. Abreu with the big hit off an ill-advised Kimbrel fastball in a situation calling for an offspeed pitch off the plate for the wipeout. Ventura Patented Five Fielders in the Infield with a 50% success rate. Wonder who pushed that idea on him? Kimbrel with the classic closer in a non-closing situation disaster (mid 4's ERA vs. sub 2 in closing situations). Avi Garcia walk, advances to 2nd...Shuck with a huge hit as well. Rusney Castillo DFA'ed today. He signed RIGHT after the Red Sox come up short on Abreu, ironically. caulfield12
Let's not quickly forget the outing of Miguel Gonzalez....he was at his best, at least what we've seen out of him. He just might have saved Hahn's job, too. At least until Thursday and James Shields against Porcello at 12:35 p.m.

Gonzalez was great tonight and THE REASON they got this win. He was great tonight.

greg775
Baseball's gods gave the Sox the win after listening to Boston's crew mocking Putnam and saying he "deserved to lose." If anybody else was listening, those Bah-ston announcers were brutal in blasting the Sox. Serves them right to not score that run and wind up losing. The White Sox ... can't win a game in the Central (cept against the AAA Twins once in a while) but usually play OK against everybody else, albeit Washington and the Yankees pasted Chicago pretty good this season. caulfield12
QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 09:42 PM) Losing to the Yankees this year says a lot. Ummm...what? That Q keeps getting screwed. Look at Sabathia's ERA for a moment. And that bullpen. They're not bad at all now. Plus, it's never a cakewalk to win at Yankee Stadium in any season. And the Rangers are on a 21-6 run right now and closing in on the Cubs as the best team in baseball. Who took 4/6 and should have been 5/6 from the Rangers? Yeah, the White Sox. Jake
This was a really well-played game. You can't accuse this team of not wanting it.

It didn't look like they wanted it in the 9th. Luckily for them the Red Sox choked.
caulfield12
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 11:51 PM) It didn't look like they wanted it in the 9th. Luckily for them the Red Sox choked. At least El Dukie did (at least)...and that's all that we needed, and a very nice play by Avila on the errant Saladino throw into the ground. Fortunately, Alex was able to corral it AND keep his foot on home plate at the same time. The strikeout of Pedroia was the most surprising of that sequence, by far. hogan873
I thought there was no way they would get out of the bases loaded no out jam. Duke really stepped up. The two strikeouts were huge, and Avila's Twister-like stretch saved Saladino's bad throw. When the inning was over, I said to my son that it was something the White Sox would do - load the bases with no outs and not score. Imagine my surprise when they took the lead in the 10th. Maybe this is a spark. Maybe this is what will get them back on track. Regardless, it was nice to see them win a game like this. Gonzalez was great; it was nice to see his outing not wasted. The ECK will tell it as it is. He is obviously pro Red Sox but he is very objective as to what he sees. He was filling in for Remy who is also objective for a team color man. I was also stuck listening to the BoSox broadcast and man was it bad. The play by play guy was alright but the color guy seemed to be a bigger homer than Hawk. Every splitter Putnam threw he ranted about how anybody who throws that many splitters deserves to lose. I almost turned the volume off. He did atleast give Duke some praise so I'll give him credit for that.

Not to mention he couldn't pronounce a single white sox players name correctly 'Nate Moore,' 'Tyler Sadalina,' 'JB Chuck.' Listening to him was downright painful. He deserved to lose. No. One pitcher not throwing strikes does not mean the team gave up.
