Rowand44
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) I agree with you and I'm very torn. I finally opened up to moving him, but it would take an absurd package, because I still think with Jimmy, you are a lot closer to the top then the bottom and I look at the Lakers, who have largely tanked, and I still see them being a long ways away. If the Lakers can't sign big name FA's when you have a roster of young players, Bulls are going to have an even harder time. Meanwhile, the Bucks drafted the Greek Freak and now Philadelphia is way behind them. The Sixers have been bad for a while but I certainly wouldn't say they're way behind the Bucks. When Simmons gets back in a little bit here, they're really going to start looking like a fun, young team. It's taken forever but their awfulness is definitely starting to pay off. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (bshah723 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Butler to the Celtics for the rights of the nets pick? Fair trade? Awful trade. If you trade with the Celtics you need to get the Nets pick this year, nets pick the following year, and Jaylen Brown. I'd probably argue you need one more, such as Marcus Smart or Crowder. I'd start by asking for the first three pieces plus Crowder. Supposedly Nets and Celtics have talked about trading Jaylen Brown for Lopez (plus some other pieces). Chisoxfn
On the other side of the equation, if the Bulls were going to buy, I'd think a point guard and someone like Okafor would be the direction they should go. I just don't know how they can do it. I suppose PG can be in free agency and Okafor would have to be a trade (and maybe it happens given the Sixers crowded front court...but I'd think a 3rd team would have to be involved). Chisoxfn
Wade made some comments about how if Butler goes, he goes and if Butler stays, he probably stays. Very refreshing comments as a whole (Wade was being refreshingly honest based upon the quotes I saw from the interview).
Balta1701
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 07:36 PM) Jimmy Butler has been voted a starting guard for the Eastern Conference All Stars. Apparently he counts as a forward. that wasn't in the tweet and I just assumed he was a 2 guard. Dah well.

So in that case, I presume you are okay then sticking with Butler and trying a different path? I'd have to think that Boston offer I mentioned would be pretty top dollar. I don't see too many teams with more assets to make it work. Maybe we'll see Chris Bosh and Chris Paul join Wade and Butler and we'll be the old man banana boat crew plus Buckets. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 09:29 AM) This scenario is probably more likely than the Bulls trading Jimmy in my opinion. If they didnt trade Jimmy this past off season it wasnt ever going to happen. Butler has taken a pretty big step forward (imo) this year. He's playing at a whole nother level right now (and worthy of ASG starting spot he just got)...that said, the offers we had on the table were pretty freaking terrible in the off-season (at least based upon what was reported). If we had pulled of any of the rumored offers, we would have been totally hosed. Boston was offering Crowder, Smart, and this years pick (which would be Brown). They supposedly wouldn't even give up next years pick and I think the Bulls wanted next years + the following pick. Twolves had Lavine and Dunn supposedy (and Lavine is pretty good and I still think Dunn is a good bet to emerge next year into a pretty good player). Bulls wanted discussions to start with Wiggins (I believe) plus Dunn and possibly even plus Lavine (not sure).

Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 05:44 PM) I'm torn on trading Butler. Historically the return from trading superstars has been pretty s***ty, and you are looking at once again turning Chicago into the last place any FA is going to want to go. On the other hand, this team defines mediocrity f*** you Gar There will rarely be free agents anymore of significance with the changes to the salary cap. I have said it before, I have much less of a stomach for a bulls rebuild now with the white sox and bears where they are. And basketball rebuilds can be so slow. But mainly, I am infuriated by the idea that Gar Forman would be in charge of this trade. With the white sox, I was in support of getting rid of KW/Hahn but also felt that if they started a rebuild it would be a good move and a sign of adjustment toward better decisionmaking. But for the Bulls, this is the mess Forman made. He got his coach. He's drafted this team. He's signed these players. This is his failure. I'd be happy if Bulls fired Forman and new guy still said let's make it work with Butler. But the main problem is this roster construction is SO stupid. I'm not going to argue the Jimmy trade stuff with anyone anymore as everyone knows where I stand on that but years like this and last to me are so much worse than a rebuild. And once again, not speaking for anyone else here but personally I'd much rather take time in a rebuild than sit around the middle of the conference(if we do go for it and get back to that point) since you're never going to be able to luck yourself into a championship in basketball like you can in baseball. Ha, I understand where you are coming from but no this isn't as bad. I love watching bulls when winter is slow and truly terrible basketball just sucks to watch. Like, those years where Ron Mercer was our best player...I just can't. And funny thing going back to looking at those 98-03 years, they actually acquired a lot of assets, which you'd like. They largely drafted well. But it takes so long to become a competitive team when you start from zero, and unlike Baseball, there is no watching the minors. Unlike football, there is no quick turnaround. But yeah, I get this isn't a good place to be but honestly would be fine just being a Raptors level team, which I think we could build around Jimmy. Core i'd build around: Jimmy, McDermott, Felicio, Grant. Lopez in a way because he's fine, I kinda like him now. Get rid of: Gibson (who is the only actual good player on this list), Rondo, Mirotic, See if Portis can become an actual 4, stop trying him at 5. He's probably bad. And then just place all of your trust in Zipser.
