Technically, it would have been a tie with the Tigers.

At this point, 2nd-4th are meaningless in the division...it's all about wild card positioning.

Still need to get ahead of them regardless

Pretty much agree. I honestly think it's all mental with him. His ability and talent is second to none.

Yeah, I do think you're right that it's mental.

Just compare his game logs with some of those other guys. Bumgarner has given up four ERs twice this year. In one other start, he only went five innings. Beyond that, it's complete dominance. We need to ditch that whole "Sale is best LHP outside of Kershaw"- it's offensive.

Bumgarner's career regular season numbers are worse than Sale for the most part. Postseason stats are obviously in his favor though.

Realistically, who's the next man in to replace Beck?

Kahnle again? Purke? Carroll? Turner? The pickings are pretty slim.

Of all those names, would like to see Kahnle get a chance to find some footing pitching in mop-up/blowout situations with no pressure. Can just relax and throw the ball in the general direction of the plate.

Fulmer.

I think that would be bad, but who the hell knows. The Sox are grasping for something they'll probably never even touch.

Rangers, Indians, Orioles, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Astros. 6 teams for 5 spots. Would be surprised if that changes.

I disagree. Bumgarner has three seasons of 200 IP. Sale has never done that.

You could say the same thing about Tim.
